Wowwee!! those are some beautiful knives Robert--

Mr.Rick comes up with a classic of the "shell" type of jack knife that were produced by the thousands weekly by Colonial and many other companies for numerous years...this one 70's
One things for sure...they took a beating for years in someone's pocket, tackle box, tool shed, etc. This Colonial, cat # 492w was a good knife for a few bucks back then. We also had the # 493, three blade in yellow, white, black and others.
It's good to see that it ended up with a collector who appreciate it's value and history. Many of us here at AAPK are here to do just that!

I have one that had loose shell covers. So I replaced them with worm grooved bone scales. Solid knives with really good steel IMO.

Just picked up this Forest-Master for my son to keep in his glove box what a sweety.

Bob;I know she cleaned up well afta the pic, but what makes her rare??Up here in Maine Colonial camp and work knives were VERY popular.

I say rare because most of our Scout knives at that time had either black or brown imitation stag plastic handles and this one has three blades.
Am I to assume there is no belt punch?? or did you not open it or it broke off..??
This tells me that they made this style with two springs and rather than use a double ended spring to support a secondary blade across from the pocket blade, we just used a butt spring and made it with one master blade...very strange!! But since your showing it, it does exist!!
A three blade, white handled Scout knife probably made in the 50's, is very rare !!

Here are my Colonials. I never paid much attention to them until a year or two ago, now I look for them. They are great users and the steel is easy to sharpen, they really take an edge. These all feel good in the hand and pocket and have strong snap.

Inexpensive, strong and well built!! The fact that these baby's are still around proves it!

A while back Bonfirebob, bombed me this multi-function Swiss Army style knife. I took some pics today and had to share.....
Hopefully Mr. Paolantonio will be along to add some more insights on this knife. As I recall he said there were only a couple made with these brown handles, and I've yet to see one with red handles or not, that had a saw blade.....

*EDIT* - Bobby did comment on this knife on the first page of this thread.....stating it was a custom #2008. Hopefully you'll forgive me for posting more pics of the same knife.....

Hi Bobby, these are the kind of knives I like to carry. They take an amazing edge in no time at all, feel good in the hand and have an old time appeal to me. I look for them every Sunday at the flea market. The second one down with the golden colored inserts was my latest find. Old School Cool.

You certainly have become a member.THE THING IS, Colonial made millions of knives, of so many kinds and styles for 70 + years! Because these knives were ALL built pretty tuff!
Considering the fact that the three original owner's like grandpa', were all terribly critical about quality and check the production every day. What I'm getting at is there are still tons of Colonial's out there, in circulation or not. That's why they are nice to collect in yard sales, flea markets and such...
Mike, I applaud your enthusiasm to knife collecting of all kinds; it's a great hobby.

I picked up these two last week- They are the 1st Colonial's in my collection.

The Barlow is identical to the one Lawrence just posted above. It feels a bit more 'solid' than the Imperial Barlows that I own, for some reason.

Recently picked up this 3 3/4" Stockman in very nice condition.

Good afternoon gents and HAPPY FATHERS DAY to all!!
My friend Lawrence shows one of his new Colonial toys which is our infamous # 701, stainless fruit knives. This model, and it's small brother the # 601, were offered in a serrated or straight edge. I elaborate much more on our wet serrated grinder in my book.
The imprint was our favorite style of advertising, "hot die stamp". This proceedure was applied with foil colored paper and a "hot die" air opperated press. Through sheer repetition, I became quite good at this.
Dole Pineapple and Banana bought tons of these for many years. The orriginal ones had N.S. bolster's with solid pin construction!
The second hero is our ole' # 292 Barlow! The original's had plastic brown jigged handles and some were shell covers with hollow steel bolster/shell handles. The one that you own and many others were made with brass or nickle plated bolster's and you can see the worn plating here and the casted material is exposed..This knife was carried by someone for years and kept cutting!! I personally love to see these pics and wonder, who, what, when, where and so on...Fascinating!!
The third two blade little baby was a solid shell knife with space made for a Celluliod insert, and would be slated for surface ink imprint for most applications,
especially made for advertiseing..I forget the stock number..
Last one is our Electrician knife, and this one is the # 2901, single blade. The 2902 has the wire stripper/screwdriver blade also and the # 2903 adds one more blade, the hooked Lenolium blade.

And finally John has an old N.S. bolster key chain knife and another nice Barlow # 292..
When I get a minute, I'll show pics of all these I might have..

I was looking over my collection today, and I forgot that this one was a Colonial too! I picked it up in a small lot of knives from an antique store about a month ago.
