I throwed it in my for sale pile. It looks better than it feels. It doesnt feel anything like a 72,
feels cheap. The blades rub.I will have to write it off as a relapse and try not fall in the gutter with gutter knives.lol

They seem kinda plentiful right now, anybody recognize the stamp on the shield??

That's what I was thinking. Or at least the last month.

I received these two in the mail today.Craftsman 9494 with Imperial blades (2 knives in one )and a Camillus Scout.The main blade on the scout is saber grind on both sides.

Both full sabre grind #72s I have have the short line under CAMILLUS, (circa 1946-1950).
I think that is the first I have seen with a long underline, (circa 1960-1976).

Not technically a 72, but its close. This is my one and only Schrade 863. Ain't it ugly! Rode hard, put up wet, chip out of the scale on one side, blade wear...... Evidently somebody out there liked it, and used it a lot!

Dad found it at a gun show and picked it up for me. The good thing is that the blades are worn to the point that it gets really sharp!

Colonel26 The 863 is a nice light knife to carry in your pocket.
Ulster also made a 63 . jerry6818 considers these as clones of the 72 and most of use 72 collectors collect the clones.Enjoy the knife I have a ulster 63 in my collection in the same condition a your 863. Grant

Phillip I like the 72 pattern and it's variants too. I've called them the biggest little knife I've ever packed.

I was talking about this particular one. It's sure been rode hard and put up wet. But I like old used up knives like that. I wonder about their story. Like this one, you know it wasn't owned by a collector, probably not even an accumulator like you and me. We've got so many knives that we'll doubtful ever wear one like this.

Nope, this was probably somebody's working knife. I wonder if it was their last. What did they do? Where were they from? It interests me.

Shearer, that's pretty neat! I like that one with the .22 shield. What is the story behind that one? I really like the 72's, I only have 2, one I traded for with a broken coping blade and a very nice one that jerryd surprised me with last summer. Treefarmer

Treefarmer if you go to page 11 and 12 you will see some 72 with the same pattern .

I like the way the blades are laid out on that one you have Wade.You said it just right " biggest little knife ever"and what a looker they are.Great find

Reckon why the small clip and the coping blade are reversed? Is that the way they were made?

On the two knives I have there is a groove for the finger nail pull for the small clip blades.There is at least four of these knives around .Jerry has one I have two and another member has one. Jerry's SL6 mine are 72 and 22LR6 (number not stamped on blade ) I don,t know the stamp on the other knife.Someone in the factory might have been making a set.

Or someone making them up with auction parts after the factory closed?? I have one with the blades switched.

BTW -- This one also has the frame relief for the small clip.

shearer, i have the same two knives, identical to yours, except that my 22LR6 does not have the frame scallop for the small clip blade.......i'm wondering if maybe some of the finger pulls on the small clip blades were misstamped, and on those knives they added the relief to make it easier to open that blade................ .................................

Carrmillus the finger pull is small and the blade is smaller .The blade is 1 13/16"on the 72 and 1 3/8"on the clones.The pulls 1/2"on 72 and 5/16" on the clones.
