Also, Sarah and I really enjoyed the Phrynie Fisher Murder Mysteries from Australian Broadcasting Corporation, so I've started reading the books by Kerry Greenwood.

Recommend all the above.

Stayed up until 11:30 last night finishing Jonathan Kellerman's latest, "Breakdown". His books about his character, Dr. Alex Delaware are one of my favorites. It's sure a good thing Linnea and I enjoy some of the same authors. She buys 'em. I read 'em.

Gonna have to check out "Memory Man".

Are the "Phrynie Fisher Murder Mysteries" related to the "Miss Fischer" series on PBS?

They are the same, but the books are somewhat different, thus far.

My reading has been a bit lighter than some of you fellows. Just finished Circles in the Snow by Patrick F McManus. A not too serious mystery book by a not too serious writer. In other words, pretty good read. I have been rereading a very good science fiction book, The Great North Road by Peter F Hamilton. For anyone who like science fiction at all, Hamilton is one of the best writing right now, in my opinion.

"Forty Years of Hardware" by Saunders Norvell. I think he is a great writer so far. He worked for E C Simmons for 20 years ,then 10 with Norvell Shapleigh as President. I never expected it to be such an entertaining account of history.

I highly recommend "Lonesome Dove" ,Jerry.

The Lost Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, originally published in 1989 and my example in 1993 by Barnes & Noble.

The book was adapted from a series of rediscovered radio broadcasts done in 1945 by Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce and others.

The radio plays were written by Denis Green and Anthony Boucher and the adaptations by Ken Greenwald.

I have the entire Sherlock Holmes collection by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and these have been done in that style and, of course, are first person narrative of Dr. John Watson.

Picked this up in hardback with excellent slip cover at 2nd & Charles bookstore for five dollars.

Picked up Lee Child's "Make Me" and Daniel Silva'a "The English Spy" at the library today.
Bought paperback John Sandford's "Gathering Prey" and James Patterson's (actually written by Sshwin Sanghi) "Private India" at Sam's Club.

I'm not a big fan of Patterson although a couple of his "ghost writers" write pretty well. Linnea likes them so I figured I'd pick this one up while I was there.

I'm reading Faulkner's THE SOUND AND THE FURY right now.
So far it sucks, but I hear it gets better.

Re-reading James Michner's "The Source". The story starts at an archeological dig in Israel and then goes back thousands of years to tell the history the area and poses a possible genesis for religion. Same author wrote Centennial that was turned into a TV mini series in the 70's or 80"s? T

Paul: A Man of Grace and Grit by Charles R. Swindoll. Biography of the apostle Paul. I'm about four chapters into it. Very well written. Learning a lot about this complex man who started life as Saul of Tarsus, a murderous tyrant, whose life was transformed into Paul the Apostle, became a preacher living a life of Grace, and authored much of the New Testament. Learning a lot about myself also. Wish I had read it years ago (it was first published in 2002).

Highly recommended reading.

First time ever reading The Great Santini, almost finished. Terrific ,almost as good as Lonesome Dove.

Sanders Norvell's book petered out for me.

Tom, thanks for that information. The book I have was a gift from my son, who is an ordained pastor. I was aware of the author's other books (there's a list of them in the book I have) but wasn't aware of that site where they are all available for that bargain price. I'll definitely look into that.

Lyle, I haven't tried The Great Santini, but greatly enjoyed The Prince of Tides, also written by Pat Conroy. Unfortunately Barbara Streisand's movie version of it was a huge disappointment. She wrote the book's most interesting character almost totally out of the script, and turned the movie into a star vehicle for herself. Highly recommend the book. As for the movie,

Robert Duvall played the lead role in the movie version of The Great Santini.

Steve, I read "The Source" years ago. A very memorable book that I enjoyed, and one that I wouldn't mind re-reading too.

Since you like "The Source", I would recommend "Sarum" by Edward Rutherford, if you haven't already read it. As my family's amateur genealogist, I like how these books follow the same families over the centuries.

Finished The Great Santini all you Marines. Terrific book and as much as I admire Duvall,his stature just doesn't play as Bull Meacham in my mind.I didn't know it was semi-autobiographical.

Duvall was amazing in the classic movie series Lonesome Dove,which is a terrific book and won the Pulitzer prize.
