I almost passed on it. When I first looked I saw only the stainless markings. I half thought it was a Chinese. Then when I turned it over I saw the Challenge. Good thing I looked closer..

Just got some photos of this today - but it was bought a few years back when I started seriously collecting old knives...

The stamp on this Equal-End Jack is Challenge /Cutlery/ Corpn (in contrast to Challenge Cut Co) - also no Bridgeport nor CT in stamp.. See the tang stamp photo which isn't crisp on parts due to some pitting - I posted the master and pen blade stamps.. I know looking through AAPK that there are a few others (not many) with such a stamp... I am not sure but think this was towards the end of the Challenge Cutlery in the mid 1920s... Note also the pile side stamp with the number "29"... Possibly a model #? Somewhat of a mystery but the clip blade on this was also seen on others I have seen with Challenge Cutlery Corpn... This may have been the years that George Schrade at Challenge... Bone is quite nice imo... the blades while no doubt sharpened were cleaned at some point and perhaps abit more than I prefer though not aggressively buffed... 3 & 3/8" closed... Hard snapping and tight..

Here's a Challenge Hawkbill with cocobolo handles.. Closed length is 3 & 7/8" so on the smaller side of pruners.. Decent condition, crisp stamp and cracking snap ..

Nice Challenge pruner Lee, hard to find in that condition.

Picked up a nice 3 5/8" sheep foot Jack, bone is dyed very dark brown or black. Pen blade unusual that it is close to a full sized blade, bear trap snaps.

Nice find on that Challenge jack John ... I'm just guessing so please keep that in mind - but I am thinking this Challenge jack had 2 full sized blades instead of a master & pen blade when it was built - pretty cool imo ... The spear blade just looks like it may have been abit longer at one point but hard to tell in photo... you know better in hand for sure... either way a NICE find and score

Thanks Lee, I'm thinking the same as you, I think the pen was a full-sized blade and someone wanted a pen or broke and reshaped.

John, that's the first thing I thought when I saw your knife. I have one or two of that pattern with the large sheepsfoot and large spear and I love that pattern. ____Dave

My knife with two large blades is not a Challenge. I think everybody except Challenge made HS&B. I believe this one was made by NYN. Here's the only Challenge I could find with a main Sheepsfoot and a pen second. it sure is a basic knife with no frills, but I sure like it I don't remember ever seeing a Challenge I didn't like.____Dave
