All About Pocket Knives

Well do you think the single Crane could be just another attempt at selling more knives? .....like the Robt Klass?

I just don't know Johnnie. I've got another with the same stamp only it is a single blade jack with wood handles and looks? more modern. Which Robt. KlaSS are you talking about? The knife shown by bigdaddy is a Robt. KlAAs which is the name-sake for the Kissing Crane brand. Here are pics of the other Robt. Klaas that I have: Carbon steel blade, iron bolsters and liners.

wow i didnt know their was two different robi and robt the one of mine there is a line under the t but it also looks like the i didnt print good cause the t with the under line is the same size as the rest of the name just a little gap in the i

LOL!!!......I'me sure your right,TJ. .....I have never been a Kissing Crane fan....the only reason that I have bought a few here lately is because they made some for the NKCA.

BRL says that they're not cranes at all, but storks. I guess Kissing Storks just doesn't have that ring to it.

BRL also said that cranes were not a native species to the area. He should try google.

Those are great.

That is the finest collection of H. Boker congress knives I've ever seen, gulo.
That checked rubber handle intrigues me. I've seen pictures of them in catalogs from the early 1900s.
Any idea on the range of years those were made?

The checked rubber handled knife's tang stamp dates it from 1869 - 1914 (per Goins' Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings). The fact that it has Germany on the tang puts it at 1891 or later. In my opinion, it's from the early 1900's, though the same knife is also listed in my 1928 catalog but I can't see a tang stamp in the picture. That's a hard old H. Boker to find. I've seen 2 of them over the last few years and bought them both. The other one I have is not in as good of condition as the one I posted, though it's a pretty solid old knife. I also have a whittler pattern with checked rubber handles from that same time frame. I don't think I have any pictures of it, but I will check. If I don't, I'll take some of it & send you a copy.
