Here's another one Dale worked on for me. Scales were fine on this one, other than being dirty and dingy - beautiful old bone on a vintage Remington RS3333 with acorn shield. Bail was missing so Dale replaced and gave it a good cleaning. Someone had also done a number on the main spear while attempting to sharpen the blade and the damage needed to be smoothed out. Turned out very nice!!

Here's my last "scout knife" post for a while - an official Remington RS3333 2009 Authentic Recreation. I do prefer the older knives, but they did a pretty darn good job with this remake, IMHO.... Heard the have another model coming out this year as well!!

I totally agree!
Nothing can beat the original knives, but those are not for anybody to get. Remakes this good are both collectable and would be fun to have as users.

I just got my Camillus Boy Scout knife back from Dale Vincent - orvet - WOWEEWOW!! Dale certainly made my day. I sent this off to Dale and he replaced the cracked and broken plastic handles with some beautiful red bone and replaced the small clip blade which was bent. The last crappy picture is of the knife before the rehandle and repair.
Dale, thank you very much for your time and effort in the revitalizing of this little Scout, I really do appreciate it. I would not hesitate for one second to recommend you to anyone. Thanks a lot.

Has anyone seen the 2110 Remington Scout replica? It's model RS4233. Can you tell me who is selling it? You can see it on the Remington Collectors club web page but you can't buy it there. I know that there is a replica master box to collect the entire set in as they get released. I would like to buy one of them as well. I have seen them on Ebay going for crazy money.

Wish I had a "junk" drawer like that. All my junk drawers contain are left over parts from old car repairs. "Wonder where this goes?"

Here's a ROBESON of some type. It has no marking other than a VERY faint number that I can't make out past the 64---
Our esteemed Mr Noyes has seen a few pics of this knife and I took some better ones today. I'll let him tell us what it is because I sure as heck don't know..

Willie bought that Robeson off Ebay. The seller listed the pattern number as 643645. Neither Willie nor I can make that out on the knife's tang.

If it is a 643645, it's a post 1940 PERMA-LUBE. After Emerson Case took over the operation of the Robeson plant, they changed the MasterCraft line of knives to the PERMA-LUBE line. The MasterCraft line had horse shoe shaped bronze bearings on the back of the tangs. The master blades were usually etched, "NEV-R-BIND OILESS BEARINGS" inside a flowing ribbon.

The problem with the MasterCraft knives was that the bearings had a tendency to fall off. When that happened, it left three little V-shaped notches on the back of the tang. When the knife was opened and closed, those little notches would catch on the backspring, making the blade stop in three positions between opened and closed. I've seen such knives advertised as having "patended 5 position stops" by some very reputable dealers.

The PERMA-LUBE knives had the bronze bearing moved to the inside surface of the backspring. The knives usually had a bronze shield, and the master blades were etched, "PERMA-LUBE OILESS BEARING".

The standard Robeson scout had a pattern number of 642214. If this knife has 643645, it's a fairly rare knife. I've never seen such a four blade scout. The only PERMA-LUBE knife I own is a little three blade whittler with the etch and a bronze bar shield, shown below.

Willie's knife has jigged black composition handles and no shield. That indicates circa WWII, or shortly after, manufacture. And, the 1905 patent date on the punch is not there.

I still do not see the bronze bearings in Willie's photos, so I cannot say for sure what he has. I wish we could make out that pattern number.

After closer examination of the springs, there is no bearing of any type on them between the tangs and the springs. This thing is steel on steel, with no half stops.

Well, if there are no bronze inserts on the backsprings, it's most likely a standard, circa WWII Robeson scout/utility with a pattern number of 642214, with jigged black composition handles.

Still, a nice old knife.

What is stamped on the front tang of the spear blade?

the front of the spear blade is VERY faintly marked with ROBESON in an arch over USA.

there is something else under the USA that has an "R" at the end of it.

That is without a doubt the lightest stamping I've ever seen on a knife.

I don't think I can even get a picture of it with that big hoss camera of mine where you could see it.

Got another old oddball in today. It's marked ROSENBAUM. Dimitri states that he was an importer and ROMO was one trademark he used. This baby reeks of Germany but isn't marked anywhere as such. Maybe somebody can translate the name on the back side of the blade.
It was rather scruffy when it came in today, but a little bit of oil and elbow grease got it slightly more presentable.

If you look closely under the name "Rosenbaum" you can see faintly "Made in Germany", at least I can see it.


Also on the back tang is "Iros/Keen" another logo/trademark they used.

All in all a very nice old scout knife
