I-Man those are beauties. There's another S&M that's sorely tempting me. It's 4" closed.

Now that's a sweet one Jerry. Beauty, love the Wharn and the stag. Nice.

Thanks Mel. I like that one too. Must be from the jigging and hafting as the shield is not worn and she is near mint. Never really noticed that before.

Here is a near mint Slick Black XX Splitback. Not the best pic with the reflections but you get the idea.

Here are 2 old Lockback Whittlers. First is a Hibbard Spencer Bartlett 4" Sleeveboard; has a pattern stamped into the thick center half liner. The pivot pins look like brass ? Might this indicate the manufacturer ?
The second one is a 3 1/2" Sleeveboard, all 3 blades marked "XL ALL/Parkin &/Marshall/Sheffield". The shield has "Thos Proctor" engraved on it. I originally thought this might be super special by being a true "split backspring", but close inspection shows the secondary springs are not joined. This knife has been buffed, which is unfortunate.

Greg - I can see why you are a bit impatient to get you hands on that Empire. Nice knife!

Joe - those are two very interesting old lockbacks. That Sheffield has fine MOP. It is kind of amazing that those covers are still intact, what with no bolsters to protect them from a careless drop. Something that I especially like on that knife are the little cut outs in the handle to allow access to the nail nicks on the secondary blades. I have a few knives with those (not sure it they have a name) and I consider it a nice touch.

Here is a whittler made in the Olbertz factory in Germany. I really like this knife, which is kind of funny since I do not really like the shape any one of the three blades or the body shape. Yet somehow the knife as a whole is very appealing to me.

Mel, i think "cut out" is the correct name. The Sheffield whittler came from the whittler collection of a well known doctor who died not too long ago. It has been heavily buffed and i'm told this collector had the top fellow available do 'restorations' on some of the knives, so the pearl handles might be replacements. If so it was done with correct technique.

Dinadan, love the long pull spear, the sleeve board, the works. I can see why you like.

Finally got to hold my Empire whittler.

Greg - looks good. I like those long pulls that go all the way into the swedge, maybe just because they are unusual. I wonder sometimes if the fellow cutting the long pull did not know the knife was going to have a swedge?

.....I don't have a clue on how to post pictures??....I bought the knife off of the old SMKW knife show back in 2010, I think it was $79.95. it has the 1922 tang stamp, carbon steel blades,round Q shield,best looking stag I've ever seen, I think it was 1 of 100, no. is #QC48S......... .......................

Q - that Hibbard Spencer Bartlett is a fine looking old knife. The blades look real good for the age. The bone on that Queen is pretty!


Redden - Nice Seahorse. One of my favorite current production knives.

I recently got a pair of the Tennessee and Kentucky whittlers by Schrade. Unfortunately they came in the original case and must have been stored in it. The Tennessee knife had some rust on the blade where it touched the case lining. On the other hand I got a real good price! And since the Tennessee whittler is already imperfect I feel no reluctance at all to drop it in my pocket. I understand that the handles are Delrin and I really like the look and feel. Makes me wonder why that jigging was not used more.
