Ken,
I appreciate the chemistry lesson, makes sense. Would washing the knife with baking soda then oiling help neutralize the acidic effect? I would guess the process will continue until the handles are removed.
Is the Case badge glued to the handle or somehow attached to the liners? I am thinking removing the handles to stop the deterioration may be the best solution.
In my experience baking soda won’t cure the problem. Might deter it briefly.
The shield (“badge” as you’re calling it) is most likely pinned through the liners. Open the blades and using a flashlight look into the blade well at the liner on the side where the shield is attached. Look carefully for signs of two flattened rivets/pins on the inside of the liner.
The covers will likely come apart in pieces anyway so you can carefully remove them leaving the pinned shield intact. If it’s not pinned they will come off easier though. Go to the Knife Repair and Restoration forum here
https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kn ... m.php?f=38 and look for some tutorials about replacing handle covers.

After removing the bad scales I have coated a knife with baking soda to help stop any more damage, if any acidic residue were left behind. I just dropped the knife in a ziploc bag with a sprinkle of baking soda and shook it up.
I don't know that it does anything good, but it doesn't hurt either.

The shield is pinned on your knife. I would consider having it rehandled. Bighead on here and others do terrific work.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned it,but floral wire would probably work.it is a dark green color, but is small and bends easily.

Had a chuckle at this. My friend and neighbor has a line ‘What could go wrong?’ It is usually uttered when we are about to do something questionable! However I do agree with the approach.
Miked32,
Thanks for the input. I had looked at the knife as Ken had suggested and saw the rivets on the inside of the liner. I am considering letting someone who knows what they are doing and has experience do a rehandle. I appreciate the contact.
Is there a place on the forum that lists knife mechanics and those that may work with certain brands?
Peanut740,
I appreciate the idea. I noticed there is one knife attached with a dark wire already.
