All About Pocket Knives

I don't have any honest to gosh Spyderco but do have a Byrd Robin.

I have two BMs a Tanto Grip and a 350.

I like Byrd when it's open. Not so much closed and clipped in my pocket.

Even as big as the Grip is I can get my hand past it into my pocket.

Therefor I take BM in this case if it's one or the other.

Both companies make fantastic knives, and both companies also have their tradeoffs. The axis lock is a work of art(and spyderco makes a version), as is the spyderhole(which benchmade makes a version). Both companies use quality materials. I tend to find Spyderco to be a little more innovative and experimental when it comes to design and steel choice, whereas I find Benchmade to be a little more "classic" in their designs. On account of this, I think most Benchmades are acceptable for the average person, whereas Spyderco knives tend to strike people dividedly as either serious winners or serious losers.

In any case, I think it is impossible to go wrong with either. All in all, I like the Spyderco style and would give my nod in their direction, however benchmade certainly stands out as one of my favorites as well.

While Spyderco makes some nice stuff I have to go Benchmade all the way. I carry a griptillian.

I carried this Spyderco Endura for years as EDC at work, at home and around town. I finally broke the plastic pocket clip off climbing out of a bobcat. I started carrying the green version then. Same outcome. Bobcat seatbelts are hell on pocket clips. So anyway I was at a show in Springfield Missouri and the Spyderco rep was there talking about how they back up everything. I pulled the two Enduras out and asked what they would do about this. Notice this early Endura now has a metal clip, so does the green one. Sharp, durable and backed by the company. great knives, thanks Spyderco.

Both are great but personally I like benchmade blue and gold class better.
I have owned spyderco and the are awesome but the style and the axis lock of benchmade puts them over the top for me.

Sequel 707s - its a great knife!

I am no more a Serrations guy than I am a Tango blade guy.
the Spydy carbon fiber Sage I got to test was fantastic!

That said I am more of a BM fan.

Benchmade for me although I have been eyeballing a Manix 2 recently.

I'm a Benchmade man myself. Spyderco builds a great knife but I'm just not crazy about their designs. My friend at work does roping and he swears by his Delica with the VG-10 blade although he had to send it in to get sharpened so I lent him my BM 707 to use while his was away. Here are two of my four because my camera battery died. The first is a Shoki 480 and the second one is a 690 which has been discontinued.

I like them both and have quite a few of each but if I had to pick one it would be Benchmade.

Here's 3 Benchmade's that I own...and one Spyderco.....all 4 are auto's.
I was strictly a Benchmade fan until I got the Spyderco Citadel .....I like'm all!!

I'll tell ya I've had them both and they are GREAT Knives but I got over that phase of knives and I get as much out of Kershaw

I like Kershaw's ...and US made Gerber's as well.
Hell..I think I like all quality made auto's & tactical's.

I like the blade on that Gerber But I have had ZERO problems with USA Kershaws,I just wish they had a grippier handle on the Leeks

That's not a problem. Actually feels kinda good to have someone agree with me

I love all my "big 3" knives, Benchmade, Kershaw and Spyderco. I'd have to say my favorites are the Spyderco's though, just something about them. I carried a Stretch ZDP-189 and a Kershaw Speedform Friday and Saturday, and a Benchmade 440 Opportunist on Sunday, all great knives in their own ways.

I own and like 'em both, but based on the fact that Spyderco has a wider variety of styles, tends to lean forward with more modern steel choices, and lets innovation and function drive design a bit more, I would have to lean towards Spyderco …

But I do have some mighty nice Benchmades as well …

I own 1 Benchmade and a few Spydercos.. My cop son and his cop sweetie both carry Spydys that I gave them.. More heavy duty and take the cop abuse!! My pick.. Guess which!!! John
