All About Pocket Knives

I have made the statement that I came here to increase my knife knowledge. This thread is a perfect example. I have been accumulating/collecting knives for many years, but had never seen, nor heard of “ACSB”. Every knife that has been posted here is exceptional.

It's true you don't find too many for sale on eBay anymore; most the 01s I see are Wormgroove Bone. Maybe that's because all the ACSB 01s are finding their way into the permanent collections of collectors like me who understand that there are a finite number in the world and no more will ever be made--at least not by Queen, the "king" of ACSB!

Good information Q... I did a few different searches and can't find much of anything for that pattern in ACSB. Did those ACSB 01s all have the Wharncliffe blade?

Glad to hear that, Gtrclktr-351. That is one of the reasons I decided to start this thread. There are so many esoteric terms used in the knife collecting world that can be confusing to new collectors--or unknown even to long-time collectors/accumulators as well. AAPK has become a repository of knife knowledge and a site to which many online knife-related research queries are directed. I use the abbreviation "ACSB" all the time, but it occurred to me that if I did not know what that meant, it sure would be helpful to find a thread like this that explained the meaning and showed some examples.

Oh, and another reason I started this thread is because I wanted to show off my ACSB collection

Can't say for certain; all I know is I've never seen one with any other blade type. Although, that could very well be due to my "Wharncliffe myopia" which essentially renders me legally blind to knives with anything other than Wharncliffe blades (it's a congenital medical condition I was born with).

Technically, no, Tom...the gorgeous handle on your customized glennbad knife is actually amber-dyed genuine stag, not stag bone. However, I'm glad you posted it here because it is a nice example for comparison that shows how similar ACSB is to genuine amber stag. To the untrained eye, they can easily be confused (which may, in fact, have been the original point and purpose of ACSB: using bone to mimic genuine stag as closely as possible).

This Mini Trapper was customized by glennbad with what Culpeppers called "Honey Amber Stag". I'm pretty sure this is bone, not genuine stag, despite the lack of the identifier "bone" in the name Culpeppers assigned to it.

Speaking of knives won on AAPK...

I was fortunate to win this gorgeous Queen ACSB Stockman that was generously donated by Philco for the January 2023 AAPK Store Owners Giveaway. It's the only ACSB knife I recall ever seeing in any contest or giveaway in all my years as an AAPK member and I won it...in my birthday month, no less! Sometimes the Knife Gods are kind and benevolent deities who bestow us with bounteous, albeit undeserved, blessings.

One reason I like ACSB so much is that just like genuine stag no two pieces are exactly the same, each and every handle is totally unique. That's true with the jigging, i.e., the "carved" aspect, and also true of the amber color. The combinations and different proportions of reds, oranges and yellows, as well as the differing ratios of light to dark surface areas make each handle truly one of a kind.

This one was a "Bomb" from my good friend and fellow AAPK member knifeaddict1965 (thanks again, Kevin!)

Nice group shot, Kevin. After looking at many different patterns one at a time in isolation, it's easy to start thinking all ACSB looks pretty much the same. But when looking at them side by side in a group it's clear that no two are exactly alike, even knives of the exact same pattern (see the two #51T Mini Trappers I posted earlier and the two #41s below). When I look at most ACSB, I still have a hard time believing it's not genuine stag; it often looks more like stag than a lot of stag I've seen.
