upnorth wrote:Thanks again Gary! I get the feeling that Redbone means different things to different people. If you were collecting knives when XXs were still being retailed, you would have a different concept of Redbone, and everything after would look like a poor substitute. The repro Redbone series from the "100 years" book is a "case" in point (pun intended) !
Just to compare, here are some Greenbone knives (or are they?) !
Yes and thank you Charlie for talking and listening, I find you to be a very knowledgable collector. I would like to offer just one piece of advice for the newer knifers before we drop the red bone. As posted in the original posters(old smoke) the difference in price for a red bone knife and a reddish knife are significant. Every time I have had occassion to sell one these the buyer was always looking for reasons to say it wasn't red bone. With knives like #2 down in Charlie's picture they don't have a leg to stand on. These are the knives that bring the red bone money.

Now to adress the green bone portion of Charlie's post. I will admit that I don't alway's see green in "green bone", but the shades Charlie posted and many more are generally known as "green bone" among the Case Collecting majority. And as my good friend Mark Zalesky says "If that's what collectors say it is then that's what it is". It don't seem hardly fair that such tight parameters are placed on genuine red bone knives and green bones run amuck, but momma say it be that way sometimes.

That knife is pretty darn RED Kaleb! I guess I like them all too much to value one over the other, but I'll take Gary's advice, and bargain hard if I ever sell my "true" redbones! Who am I to argue??
On to Greenbone, here are some Equal End knives, just because that's what I used to collect. I think it's hard to argue that these aren't Green, but have at 'em!!

I'm glad you posted that Kaleb, there's no doubt about that one, I would agree with you 100% ...that is a true red bone. Fellers this is why these kinves often bring twice as much as reddish bone. If every knife that had red in it was cosidered red bone then the woods are full of them. Wow what a beauty kaleb ::tu::

Whoa Rusty, there's more out there. You just have to be ready when they pop up! I haven't collected EE's for years, and I've seen them pop up on the "Bay".
