OLDE CUTLER - Looking at your post, that Matchsafe complete with box really is a good find.

Here is mine from the 1960s, I think, along with stuff representative of my pocket back then. I know I owned this Marbles when I was a boy because the inside shows the sooty carbon buildup that you get when you use the matchsafe as a cannon. You know, shave the explosive coating off of the tip of the matches and drop it into the matchsafe. Then drop a loosely crumpled piece of paper in, then set the paper on fire and wait for the matchsafe to imitate miniature cannon. How in the world did us boys survive back then. Looks like I also used it for a hammer at some point!

We used to use old bicycle spokes for cannons. Pack the screw with caps and add a #8 lead shot in it. Hold it over a candle and bang! Brother got busted for blowing a hole thru his bedroom door.
Those were the days!!

We did too! But we used the phosphorus on the ends of kitchen matches and stuck the wooden end of the match into the end of the spoke. I remember shooting Papaws pigs.

These days we would probably be breaking some Federal laws by creating weapons without a permit!
