Did some researching this morning.

My "Whatchamacallits" are actually called "Binding Posts" and are commonly used on speakers, amps and other musical equipment. The center hole of the binding post is an opening to insert wire. This may be done as bare wire or if chosen, with the help of a so called banana plug on the end of the wire. Then..., the metal cap is screwed on, to clamp the wire or banana plug tightly in place & insure for a good connection.

I'm still here. Enjoying the company of all the good people here.

Tom, that’s cool as all get out right there.

Shelf I keep with some EDCs on it so each morning I can grab blades for the day or whenever I need a change up.

From I understand Uncle Henry Baer had control of both Schrade and Wostemholm as well as Camillus. I read some where that the lock backs were sent in skeleton form to Camillus for finishing. Talk about connections.... Here is a link to another thread that should fill in the blanks.

Here's a couple of mine in the display case:

The two hawkbills saw extensive use in the mines. The one with the bail still attached was my Granddad's (he pocket carried his), and a buddy of mine carried the one with the bail broken off for many years in the mines (he carried his on the toolbelt as he was the maintenance guy). I retired them a long time ago as I was getting several other Kleins in varying conditions in used lots (I have about 6 now); and I mostly carry the Japan-made hawksbill that is much lighter, and one-hand opening (plus it locks up better than a Utica; as what Moki calls acceptable truly is; Utica stinks on the budget models).

The two wood-handled knives are Camillus-built Imperial Frontier Double Eagles. They are award knives for the Westmoreland Coal Company, but oddly etched on the pile side. The #27 is a Channellock model. It is the only truly mint #27 I own.

That's the same hardhat my Granddad used in the mines when he worked underground in various positions. His others, mostly kept in the truck when he was mostly in parts and service in later years, are near mint. This was also just laying in the basement. I plan to do something with his rigger's belt and Kohler Wheat battery lamp (other than getting it back to as-new; and while I plan to, the batteries are EXPENSIVE for those--like $300).

The lamp is a Kohler #209 Flame Safety lamp. It was used in the mines right before the advent of electronic sniffer equipment for methane. Pretty old school, even for the mid '70s-early '80s.

The Bluefield Coal Show is the smaller of two coal trade shows in the US. It is done at the Brushfork Armory every two years, and is pretty much local. It was cancelled this year due to the big one, MinExpo in Las Vegas being postponed until this year. My Granddad attended it several times in the '70s and '80s. The buckle was found for you guessed it, a dollar at a church yardsale about 10 years ago. I got it as a Christmas gift a few years later.


Below it is my great grandfather's old Just Rite hunting lamp (carbide); a Justrite that I have left as-is as the body is too banged up to hold gas pressure.

There is also my ERTL Schrade-Walden 1950 Chevy Panel Van, a Camillus Scout Leader penknife, a Schrade Norfolk Southern Pocahontas Diviision (headquarters is in next town over) 1988 Safety Award, a '90s Zippo knife, and a Schrade Lilly three-blade doctor's penknife (my name for the pattern)--it's just a 778 with an added lancet (Wharncliffe) blade and bail.

And a watch battery I keep spare and want to know where it is.
