Yachtsman had such a long life because Camillus was making them and were also marked with there own name. Buck Yachtsman were awarded to all Coast Guard Academy grads for several years and were sold in PX's all over the world. They were badges of honor for Boatswain Mates. For many years only they could carry them on board..

I'm still around just feel that Bert and a few others are finding info that I don't know and staying out of the way of progress.

Well, I for one am glad to hear from you, and yes Bert is a wonderful resource but so are you, don't be such a stranger.

Picked up this 1992, 301- today in Millsboro, DE. It's nearly mint. Blades appear to have factory edges No brass in this one. It's a bit stained but I'm sure that will clean off easily. Tag said $8 so I didn't haggle. . Searched around on line, only saw one red one out of about 60 listed.. Feelin' lucky today. J.O'.

Thanks and I'll keep that in mind. Most Bucks I see have been well used and aren't in great "collectible" condition. This one is, so I grabbed it. It is literally the only Buck in my collection. Right now it's still "new" to me so I'll hang on to it for a little while. Try me in a month or so. [email protected]

I have three 301’s but the one I use and carry the most is my early 70’s model (non- stainless springs & double brass liners on one side). It’s a much better slicer than newer models due to the full flat grind also. Why did they change to the current Sabre grind?

It's bad when you post on a forum, then forget where you put those pretty knife photos. I posted photos of my "new" old Buck 303 just yesterday, now I haven't clue where I put them.

Maybe I can remember a forum with a title like this one. I hope I'm not breaking any rules.

My lovely wife bought me this little beauty at the Boaz knife show last weekend. It was just laying on the table looking like an orphan, all dirty and unkempt. I brought it home, cleaned it up, found out it's a 1st cousin to my 301 and 307, so I'm in the process of adopting it. Still has some dirt behind it's ears and other places, but I'm working on it.

It looks good in the family photo. I bought the 301 new sometime around 1970/75, the box paper insert has a date of Apr 4, 1972, and the 307 at a gun show about 3 years ago.

My absolute favorite 300 series..Somehow Craig had Buck use BG42 steel and I for one am really glad he did.

For years and years, I carried a regular black 301 Stockman. It still is a fine knife. But about five years ago, I saw the chairman series 301 and picked that up as a replacement. After 50 years of black Bucks, it was fun to have one so colorful. The Chairman 301 is in my pocket every day now. It doesn't look quite as pretty as this stock photo, but it's holding up well. Right after that, they came out with a similar configuration with no signature and brass bolsters. I picked up a Stockman and a Cadet in that as a backup. But with a Buck knife, the only way you ever need a backup is if you lose it. They won't wear out if you give them a little bit of care. This is the only knife I really ever need... but I still have others of course. I'll see if I can rustle up all my other 300 series and shoot a photo for this thread.

Here is my collection of black 301s. Not complete, but they make a nice set.

Trailblazer, Wrangler, Stockman, Congress, Cadet

I'm not a collector of anything but I have acquired and still have these 300"s:
321 1986
309 1999
327 2011
325 2017
389 2019

I don't carry them anymore, have gone over to middle sized SAKs, mainly the Vic Recruit.

Collectors do so intentionally, I was merely looking for the best EDC for my lifestyle. I did prefer Buck, not so much anymore.

bigshot, You have a very nice assortment of Bucks. I do particularly like your red one. If I come across one, I'll probably pick it up.

Looking at all these, it strikes me that it is a real shame that Buck seems to be gradually getting rid of the 300 series.
