I have the small matched diameter HSS cutters but do not like them much.They either skid and dig in without warning.
I would prefer the bigger diameter cutter with parallel sides and radiused corners.

It will be no big deal to turn and harden such a tool from an old Hi tensile bolt.

You blokes are blessed that you have the various well priced vendors so close and a decent timely mail system. Anything I want is 4 weeks away and sometimes triple the cost. I try to make do with as much as possible.

Kangaroos are a protected species under Australian law and to kill, buy, sell or possess kangaroos is an offence. Shooters are provided with licences to kill kangaroos; however this is limited by species, number and location.

Rather than kangaroo I am favoring emu femur leg bone. I have a bit chasing up to do to find a willing vendor from the groups that farm them for their meat, feathers and oil.One wants to sell a whole skeleton for $125.00- no sale!

I shall post more info on the emu bone when I have something to tell you. Also at the moment I have promising lead on sheep bone.It apparently is very robust and am told by an old timer that is ideal for tool handles.

Bone was definitely scratted, picked, and designed by hand. But, the jigged effect you showed was only achieved with machinery or electric tools by artists now.

I think some of the artistic custom makers jig their own bone.

my main requirement was to find a grippy solution to bone that fits with old sheffield knives in need of new scales

sawcut works well on a barlow but looks a bit out of place with some of the bareheads I have
