Here in some parts of the States (mostly the South), any soft drink is called a Coke. Other places, any computer is called an IBM (or at least it used to be), and the list goes on.

I think perhaps we here have been using the word clone to describe knives with other companies names on them other than Camillus. Probably not a correct use of the word but that's never stopped us before.

I think you are right, but in a way it make the thread even more interesting. I have read of authors who experiment with just deleting segments of their book, and sometimes it makes the book better. Same thing here!

That's easy:
If it's made by the same company, it's a "Variation".
If it's made by someone else, and the parent company owns the trademark or the rights to that design, and that item basically looks the same but with minor alterations, it's a "Clone".
Look at all the Colt 1911 clones out there.

What a great thread I have discovered here! Reminds me of trying to watch a TV show which I recorded during severe weather, you know, one where the satellite goes out and you periodically get those blank pauses. You guys are hilarious with your ad-libbing, thanks for the entertainment!

An excellent example of the problems with the written word and not being able to see the facial expressions of the author. Any post, whether serious intent or written in jest, its content can be misconstrued by the reader. Then a conclusion is reached that may or may not have been intended by the author.
We should all keep that in mind, and not be quick to take offense. I’ve been guilty of that myself, as both the author and the reader of posts that have been written in jest but taken seriously.
In the spirit of the Christmas Season, let’s let by-gones be, and forgive all perceived transgressions past and future!

Good post, Ken. I tend not to be too serious at times, and I know a lot of other folks here enjoy posting a jest or two. I did recently seriously offend a member by trying to lighten the tone in a thread, so maybe I should give up on humor. But then I would not be me!
It is not too common on this forum, but on other forums, several times I have seen folks take offense at comments that were not intended to be offensive. Some folks, once they state their opinion, seem to consider any contrary opinions offensive. What I would consider a good discussion of a topic is construed as an attack by those folks.
