All About Pocket Knives

Thanks!! Great piece of paper!! I didn't think there would be anything left of the old factory site just as there isn't much left of all the factories in Walden. I had friends in Warwick back in the 60s and 70s when it was a little community, haven't passed through there for 20 years most likely. I was out in western NY a couple weeks ago where with a couple friends I went to the sites of the old Case Bros, W R Case, Kinfolks, and Cattaraugus factories, the site of Brown Bros/Union Razor operation and to the old and new Case factories in Bradford. Had dinner in the Case Bros factory in Springville where the old factory has been repurposed into a couple modern businesses. I just love old cutlery history.

This thread would have saved me a trip I took earlier this year to Factory Street seeking any remnants.

I did, however, recently acquire an 1888 letterhead for the Isaac A. DuVall Rake Factory which was taken over by the Napanoch Knife Co. in 1900 & then by the Honk Falls Knife Co. until it burned down in 1929. Its as close as I have gotten to any Hudson Valley Knife Mfg ephemera. (other than post cards)

That sounds like a good piece as well Ken :: :: ... just my 2 cents on ephemera - cutlery boxes which I consider ephemera can be found more often than other pieces - letters, checks, receipts and the like are a matter of luck in searching every possible “hunting” resource - estates, antique barns, yard sales especially in areas where the cutleries existed etc... in all honesty and hate to say it but eBay as well - but search eBay in not the usual places - for example my best piece of ephemera I found was a cancelled original H&B New Britain Conn check (1870) and even signed by Humason (the “H” in H&B) - I found it in an eBay category nobody would usually look - antique revenue tax stamps and checks... pure luck but stumbled on it ... for me I don’t search for ephemera and just let it appear - and jump on the opportunity when it arises if the price is not absurd... guess my point is always keep your eyes open and be patient ...

I've been wanting to post this for a couple weeks, finally got around to it. Dropped it and cracked the pearl the same day I bought it. Solid knife though and still good snap on the blades.

Nice score Bill ... especially since what I am reading above is that these makers knives are rare...

MOP - my opinion - the most unforgiving in terms of knife handles & durability... that is why so many MOP knives have cracks - Sorry it happened to you Bill when you dropped it but as you know *&%$ happens to the best of us... at least it didn't produce a big chip in the MOP...

Thanks Lee, I had never heard of Warwick either, just happened to find this one after this thread was started. I try to stay away from MOP, and I only ACCUMULATE older rare knives if I come across one. Would have passed on this one except I had seen this thread.

I have a Warwick and I will get it out and take a picture of it.

Great knives posted and Eric that picture and billhead are the best.

Here is my 3 1/16" Warwick. Mint condition, sorry about the crappy pictures it's raining here in AZ and I could not get the light I wanted.

The picture is dated 1908.

Mike that is a sweet little example too. You still have the "Business" PB, I never had one of those, so you shouldn't feel too bad about the Invincible. Trapper is still home, not ready to leave for a while yet.

Just received my copy of "Knives Of The Hudson Valley" by Richard Langston I purchased here on AAPK.
It has a section about Warwick Knife Co.

Personally I think it is a sweet example of a classic old Warwick in great condition and wanted to post some of the photos here for posterity ..

I'll bring this thread back from the dead. Here's my WARWICK pocket knife.
Normally, I wouldn't buy a pocket knife with a broken blade.
However, this pocket knife was an exception due to the tang stamps.
I couldn't quite get a picture of the tang stamps the way I wanted to.
The last picture is the seller's picture of the tang stamps.

Per GOINS - c. 1907-1929 This knife manufacturer was on Factory St. in the town of Warwick, New York. The first city directory listing was in 1907, but it is believed to have been in business before that time.

Belknap Hardware contracted so many knives from Warwick, that they had little time for the manufacture of their own. Therefore, Warwick marked knives are extremely rare.

Great knife Ike.Besides making Primble knifes, I believe many of the A Fields Progress and Levering knives were made by Warwick.
