here is a small (3" ish) ebony cokebottle, I'm going to do a proper replacement on the pin, someone stuck a nail in there the blade, it's not as worn as it looks in the pic

Yessir, Johnnie...that's a rooster nutter, or caponizer.

Since I have joined this club the Ole Green Eyed Monster seems to rear its head more and more often, those are some very nice specimans of art and history.

great knives guys. just got this harness jack, got to show it off! 3 1/2" closed.

Here is a Scout knife that I may put bone handles on or I may sell it......I haven't decided yet.
The scratch is on the bed of my scanner, not the blade.

I was reviewing this thread (It makes for good viewing! ) to see what I might add, and Another Knife Collector's nice knives reminded me I had this bunch tucked away.
The Hawk's handles are jigged fully in the round. The bottom disc is almost the same size as a quarter! (CDN & US are the same size). The swell center pattern seems to be pretty rare (nice one, AKC). The cigar jack's main blade is down a bit; usually it's the small pen.
And the coke hunter is near full, but had a sloppy repinning for some reason, but is full and nice otherwise.
The bone jigging is what brings them together, great examples of the art, IMO!

An Ulster 63 and the Schrade equivalent 863, that originated from the traditional Ulster whittler pattern.



The Ulster has a nice swedge on the clip, which was a trademark of Ulster blades.

I love seeing those "evolutionary" steps, thawk. Comparing knives with common ancestors always tells a tale. Almost as interesting as anthropology!

Here's part of that evolution of Thawk's knives, and an excuse to bring back the Ulster thread! I love balloon jacks and balloon whittlers.
They look great in Ebony, as well as jigged.

I've really got to do something about the scratches on that scanner!

I am glad someone posted to this thread today. It reminded me that I had picked up an old Ulster yesterday at a pawnshop. The pattern is a US-2, fruit & meat-sampling knife. It is 4-11/16” in length. The blade is stainless steel. I wonder if the “US” stands for “Ulster Stainless”?

I think a case can be made for the US-2, being the ancestor of the SS102 by Schrade. Both are 4-11/16” closed, a rather uncommon size.
Ulster also made a US-5, which was 5-3/4”, the same size as the Schrade SS 105. I wonder if the “SS” (in the SS102 & SS105), stands for “Schrade Stainless”?

At any rate, whether the US-2 & US-5 preceded the SS102 & SS105, or if the Schrade versions came first, it is evident that they shared some common ancestry.
