Thanks Dimitri. That is what I call Salisbury bone. I do because they supplied Holley and I've seen several early Holleys and others with that similar bone. My opinion, yours welcomed .
From Salisbury Historical Society.
" Dear Mr. Fry,
We had two cutlery handle factories here in Salisbury. The Salisbury Cutlery Factory made only handles, some of which went to the Holley Manufacturing Company. They made bone, wood, ivory, shell, buffalo horn and pearl.
From an article by the Lakeville Journal July 15,1948: "Here discriminating buyers could obtain the much prized handles of genuine "stag"....or clever copies of stag handles carved from the shin bones of steer by specially trained artisans who worked on hand-operated machines."

I have a Washington cutlery co quill knife heading my way in the mail. I found it on the bay. I've been interested in local and regional brands for a minute, but hadn't actually heard of this brand until recently.
I found some good history on them

I have several butchers knives made by the later iteration of the company, the village blacksmith.
Will post pictures when it gets here, I'm straight up giddy about it.

Thanks for posting that info, Zach, I enjoyed reading it. I don't recall ever visiting Watertown on any my forays into Wisconsin, looks to be a very nice town. Looking forward to seeing your knife.

I've actually not been there either
Seller shipped the knife this morning right away so i shouldn't have to wait to long.

This little guy showed up last week, or maybe even longer than that. Was a busy week and weekend.
Here it is though. I thought it was ebony, but after receiving it and seeing the grain pattern and semi- translucency near the pin, I now believe it to be some variety of horn. Slight gapping. Half stop. Strong snap. Awesome little knife.
I just missed out on what appeared to be a transition knife on the bay. It was a double gunstock pearl manicure knife. Both Lehrkind & Davil and Washington Cutlery Co. stamps were present.
