They've gone the way of the Pflueger Medalist and the Pelican.

There are quite a number of custom knifemakers though.My first custom knife was by Bill Zaleski(I have two of his knives) and I also have a beautiful miniature fighter by Jim Turecek of Derby.

George Schrade wirejack from a home improvement Co. in Springfield Oh by the name of Ridgely. I would speculate the other name was a salesman.

Marshall Wells is the best known local brand from anywhere around Northern Mn. although they were a hardware brand and had alot of makers made their knives but they were only stamped with their company and country if it wasn't USA made so this is all you are getting from me. I do have a number of MW folders I may try to dig out of the rolls in the safe but my fixed blades are easier to get to. The three regular bowie hunters are Sheffield made and the heavy bolster job is LF&C made all distributed from their main warehouse in Duluth MN. The sheaths are made by me. ____Dave

Agree with Joe - nice knives Dave ... I wasn't aware that LF&C distributed and made knives for others around the country... Is the LF&C knife also stamped with the Mn distributor name? Beautiful sheaths as well - great job on them!!

Thanks Joe and Lee. I believe the only mark on the LF&C is the Zenith/ Marshall Wells stamp. I have a few of the LF&C bowie hunters with their own stamping and that is unmistakably one of theirs. I have never seen another company build them with that heavy guard.____Dave

Thanks Dave!! No doubt that heavy guard is a characteristic of the LF&C hunters - some LF&C do sport a thinner guard but their price is less as well... I really like the LF&C Hunters - one of my special knives in my collection for sure (posted in the old Hunter thread on Knife Lore)!!

Here's another pic of my Marshall Wells LF&C with LF&C marked ones including the thin bolstered one which is blade etched "Universal". The large sheath is origional to all the LF&C marked ones. The other sheath is mine. ____Dave

I live in New Mexico now and unfortunately there are no vintage knife companies that I know of from around here. There are some custom makers like Harvey McBurnette, but I don't own any knives by him.

So I'll go with a knife from the state where I was born and raised: Virginia. This one was made for Carlin-Hulfish Company, a hardware store that used to be in Alexandria.

Nice "Moose" from VA Dave Nice bone and the jigging pattern on it is unique to my eye - almost like small grooved worm patterning... blade looks real good too!!
