I have a Lawton Cutlery knife. Goins says 1890-95 in Chicago. They were importers and jobbers. Doubt that many are around and I don't know who made mine

Know nothing other than CASE knives but I really do appreciate ANY knives that are real old as I like old things that have survived the years/ages.

Here is a Case Brothers & Co, Gowanda, NY and two Little Valley Knife Ass. knives. I am posting both of the Little Valley Ass knives to show that they have different tang stamps. They have been lightly used and possibly sharpened.

Hello Miller Bro's.......... I really like the Beaver Cutlery Co. knife, I guess
you would call it a horseman knife. Is it American made? The only 2 that
I knew of are the Ulster and the Kleen Cutter that were made in USA.

Robeson made this knife.The Punch blade has the Robeson patent date stamped on it and the handles are a Robeson patent as well.

Keep those great posts coming guys. I am learning a lot as we go and am seeing a lot of old knives and stamps for the 1st time.

I am posting an old one here that dates to the late 1700's. A Barlow knife with the BAR LOW stamp.

OK, I'm limited somewhat by my narrowly focused single maker collecting.

But, rare Robeson stamps do exist.

I have no real idea when this arch up/arch down stamp was used.

THE ROBESON CUT. CO. ROCHESTER, NY (I don't think I have a photo of this knife.)

I suspect this is the earliest form of the ShurEdge stamp. The knife this stamp resides upon has the handle die shape number 001, meaning that when Robeson came up with their numbering system, this was the first pattern to which they assigned a number. Probably circa 1903.

Terrier Cutlery, 1910 - 1916.

Fillmore Cutlery Co was a pre-1900 stamp used by Millard Fillmore Robeson on some knives he imported from both Germany and Austria.

Your post kind of blows me away.. I have heard of the Fillmore stamp but didn't know the history. Probably never see these stamps in the wild I would venture to say. Love that Terrier stamp as well.

Tom, was your knife made by the Barlow family?

I am told that John Barlow had this one made in Sheffied, England. I could use a little help with the history as I am operating from memory here but I believe he was the son of the original Barlow that started the knives.
