I hear you Dimitri;some of the knives I've seen(and own)border on the ridiculous.Here are two(not congress)that exemplify that:
The top one is Italian and came in a biker style leather cigarette package holder complete with studs.A better use for it would be to put it in a heavy woolen sock and use it for a mace!
The second one is Pakistani and I bought it in a pawn shop for $18.It's like five trappers put together in one handle.Surprisingly the quality doesn't look that bad although I've never tried to cut anything with it.Should probably be used like the first one.

Ray, I have the same knife as the top one you are calling Italian, however I cannot find a single mark on it.

I thought it is of German decent could be Italian, but way better quality than Pakistan or India

Dimitri: Mine is marked on the clip blade and the spear point is marked Rostfrei.See pic.Also here they are opened.

Thanks for the additional pictures, for whatever reason mine is completely unmarked but seems to be the same as your knife.

Here is another oldie, this time a German made knife.

Very nice jigged bone handles and fancy grooved bolsters again.

The shield is very pretty with the bone on that one Dimitri.
The congress pattern is very beautiful, here is a mother of pearl example.

From what I've encountered,the old cutlers put what we call the "gnarliest" stag on the pile sides.Does anyone concur?

Roger's Boker reminded me of this thought.I hope he comes to Parkers and I hope to be there a couple days.

I guess this made shield placement somewhat easier and more uniform?I guess it also may have to do with shield or not and the cutlers preference.Lot of guesses.

I've only owned two pearl handled Robeson congress knives. One I sold a long time ago. The other is shown above in previous post.

Stunning greedy, I can see why it is a favorite. I think it would be one of mine too.
Great stag on that dnt. I really like the stag such as that which I see on German knives of this time period. It appears like rounded nodules clustered together. Does anyone know if this indicates if it was taken lower down on the antler or if it was simply a pattern in antler that was sought out?
