Here is the after shot of the leg,boot,shoe Knife and a Gerber I had done. Don't know how much it increases value. It does though make them look a bit better.

FRJ, I have the same catalog reprint. My dad told me I was silly for buying it but it has identified at least 7 knives as correct by model number so in my mind it was money well spent and has already paid itself off. Those would be the aluminum handles we were talking about. I've had a couple of these and also a couple Schrade Cut Co. The Schrade's were probably stamped because they were advertising knives. I sold the NYKCo's about as soon as I received them and didn't look that closely at them next time I'll pay more attention.

MOSS, I'm not sure about the date of this knife. The work sure looks similar to the NYK Co knives above which WOULD lead one to believe they were aluminum ~~~ Tips hat to MB ~~~ Anyone know when this knife might have been made?

There was this worm wiggling around in the back of my mind. I thought I remembered having one with engraving on the bolsters. Sure enough, it's the one I won on AAPK back in May due to the generosity of Quick Steel. It's a very nice Case Stag 05254.

I have 4 knives in Pearl NYKC, and the Walden Knife Co. No doubt that they are aluminum bolsters. It is hard to show in the pictures but I am going to say I think engraved with the handles on. The reason I say that is if you look closely, you can see the overrun into the pin inside the art. Also at the edge of the bolsters there is overrun as well.

On the other had I guess a contoured Stamp could have been used, but do not know how practical that may have been? BH

Update: OK Fellas, I looked at everyone of my examples. Only the one shown in the pics has enough detail to show. After looking at all of my references, every one illustrates the border of the art closest to the Handle well within the bolster. That said I just cannot imagine in pre 1931 anyone had the capability to engrave each one of these knives on 4 sides. If they did it would have been mighty expensive. So I suppose that on the one I show, it seems very well possible that done by hand that the die missed the mark by a few thousandth's causing what is illustrated in the pics. I do believe the center on the pin was quickly engraved as there is no consistency with the profile.....

One more observation, looking through a loop there are some mighty sharp corners, that would be quite a feat to engrave with a square tool BH

WOW!! What a beauty! The bolster's look alum. and the rounded finish in hefting and the swedge on the back of the pocket blade says OLD....
I have a few bone handled Ulster's myself....
Here's the closest I can come guys from my collection...a nice Mammoth Ivory hand scrimed by Joe Luiz and HAND engraved bolster's by Clint Orms from Texas 40 years ago.

The Mother Of Pearl is a jewl, bolster's again by Clint, extensive painstaking workback on blades, springs, and liners inside and out!!
File work on both are from yours truely!
Bobby P...you won't see these Colonial's/ RAP Cutler's in any catalogue!

Most of the finest carver's or engravers still use the old fashioned tiny tipped chisels and very high magnification!!

Thanks pal, I'm sure the rest of the guys feel the same! When I hold them and really look at the work I put together, it even astonishes me! The artists who helped me with my ability to assemble these parts and bring all this work together are the real heroes!! I must admit finishing these baby's to the mint condition that they are in really shows just how good I could do what I do best...
I currently have your Delrin handled # 533, three blade large stockman Old Cutler, and I will begin tomorrow on just what I'm going to do with this honey. I've been thinking about my approach for two days and I feel tomorrow is a good day to start..
I hope I can make you proud of me! One thing is for sure...It will be one of a kind, truely customized by me and followed up with a personallized C.O.A....signed even!!

Mr. Palomilitillio Sir., That would be some of that good ole Winterbottom Bone (bone stag?). That knife is dead mint never used carried or sharpened and the crowned Q tang stamp dates it ca.1932-1955 I'm proud to have this old English Jack.
