All About Pocket Knives

Wore a Bandaid till after lunch today cause my Honk Falls I got 2 weeks ago bit me.

Took mine out for the week. It worked just fine.

Get a Honk Falls they are great.

Carried and used my Yellow Honk Falls this week and it still working fine.

I can't seem to get my head around buying a Frost knife. Heck, I just began accepting Rough Rider knives 1 1/2 years ago. Frost knives, not so much.

When I first got into knives back in the mid to late 80's (pre-internet & Motley Crue was all over the radio) ... SMKW had catalogs full of Frost Cutlery knives. Memories a bit foggy now, but I recall some of them were made in Japan back then. I had a bunch of them back then & recall they were pretty decent. My tastes have changed to all USA knives now, but recall the day when they were very popular - a lot of bang for the buck back then.

I been happy with my Frost Honk Falls Stockman's

Here are 3 Steel Warrior knives with 'pearl' inlays in the brushed steel frame. The fit and finish on these is exceptional.

KJ I've always been fascinated by those little indentations on the Frost knives blades and the accompanying sticker where they were tested for Rockwell hardness. Of course it doesn't take a lot to entertain me.

Puma knives used to have the dent from Rc testing as well as an identical looking sticker. I bet that's where Frost got the idea , in part to create an association in a person's mind with these more expensive knives.

In comparing the Frost knives to the Rough Riders, at least the Steel Warrior brand, there is no difference between the two. At least with certain frames. To show this look at these two knives. One is a Steel Warrior and the other a Rough Rider. The one on the top is a Rough Rider and the other of course is a Steel Warrior. The bottom knife has been used on my work bench for the last five years. I have hammered it through brass and mild steel rod. Its a Damascus laminate with a high carbon center. Takes a damn good edge not mention that it takes a beating, literally! The rough Rider is the backup and has never been used. I bought them both around the same time. They are the same. Fit and finish. Jigging and everything else. The bottom one is a bit faded from use over the years, but still a mighty fine knife!

RR & frost must be using the same manufacturer for some of their knives. It truly is amazing how well both these brands hold up even with 'rugged' use. I have used a few and every one has exceeded my expectations for edge holding and maintaining no play.

Both have above average for and finish. And my Lanskey Crock Sticks put a great edge on them!

I just picked this up. I added it to my SMKW order to take apart to add experience to my knife repair. After looking it over I like it to much to take apart. I was surprised how nice the knife is in fit and finish. Walk and talk is great. I will use it as a EDC.

I occasionally stop by the Frost factory store just north of Chattanooga TN, and Frost really does have some good knives. Many are older patters, similar to the Rough Ryders, but they have hundreds of varieties of handle materials, etc. I picked up several around Christmas time, and still have a few of them. I have a Doctor's knife in blue bone that wound up being far too light - more of a Baby Blue color. It is hideous.
I have thought of putting new handles on it, but the bone handles would cost more than the knife!

Aye yi yi that's a beautiful knife Nev! Thanks for the additional pics, and I'm glad I requested them cuz from your original picture I couldn't tell it has a gunstock frame, and now that I see it does it's that much nicer! Now, if it only had 1 blade it would be just about perfect, since I'm a dedicated 1 blade guy! Not hard to see why you really like it!

This was a Frost small lock back I purchased to take apart and learn knife repair. I have to say I think it looked better before I worked on it.

For the small amount you paid for that knife I think is a good price for the experience you gained.
