I really can't figure this out? I don't know what knives are worth. I guess i will sit this one out and see what is offered, to get an idea. I would not want to short someone on value. maybe next time.

Chief -- If you have one you think would be appropriate for the Round Table, go to eBay in Collectibles/All Swords, Knives Blades and do a search on it in Advanced/Completed Auctions. What people are paying is a pretty good indicator of what the knife's really worth.

Dave I think most folks would prefer the knife not come from China or Pakistan, but other than that I don't think country of origin will be an issue.

For all you folks new to AAPK, I offer this in the way of "Situational Awareness" …

Some of these old coots (not myself of course) try to outdo each other with what they share, so a good rule of thumb as Phil said is to send along a knife you would be happy to receive yourself.

This is an outstanding group of folks, you will be amazed at how much "family" you will find here. So if you just found this place be sure to Bookmark it. Twice.

Question ? Once we find out the person we are sending a knife to, do we also find out if they have a preference for a specific type of knife ? Or do we just surprise them with something nice ?

I don't think there is any expectation to find out what your recipient likes. On the contrary, I think a roundtable is mainly used to circulate knives of varied manufacturers. The fun is getting something that you may not have sought after yourself, but now have discovered as part of the RT process.
