Oh that's good news Johnnie--now how to explain the shields with no circles ugh-- Hi Johnnie i'm a 30ish year old female who basically inherited this task , since I was the only one that does ebay lol in the family-- I in the last month have learned so much though and have to admit "blush" i'm intrigued and am having a lot of fun. My grandfathers both collected and as a little girl i remember running off with their little pearls and getting scolded. I thought they were so cute! Now I see why they weren't too thrilled about that I can't start collecting though my dh would kill me; my dh is getting a kick out of telling people his wife is a knife dealer I hope you guys don't mind me asking things I'm learning as I go and trying to get these sold off in a timely manner-- I think I will be sad when I sell that last knife sigh-- now i'm even more confused because i found a 92042 pearl with kentucky wildcats on it case xx usa- who knew my grandfather had any customs?

the plain shield indicate a non natural handle material on factory knives. don't fret about it. it's ok not to collect. we don't mind helping. it's what we do. you're grandfather was having fun collecting. save the memories of those days taking his little pearls. good luck and keep on asking.

Those are CASE delrin handled pocketknives that have been rehandled...looks like genuine abalone to me.

Case NEVER made genuine abalone handled pocketknives until the modern "collector" era (1990's)...the closest they ever came, really were some small gent's knives imported from germany in the 1020's and tang stamped R. CASE BRADFORD GERMANY. These are pretty rare and are seen in pearl and in abalone. Otherwise, Case made regular white pearl handled pocket knives in the Bradford factories but not abalone.

but in the 70's a number of amateur knife mechanics would rehandle and customize standard Case pocket knives in peral, stag, abalone, etc.
