All About Pocket Knives

jerry, you must have not read my entire post before. i found the box that the knife came in, and if what you say is true, then it is the wrong box and paperwork for that knife, because my knife is the very same as yours and tang stamp also. i know this isn't a 76 tang stamp.
but,,, what is interesting here is that the paperwork is for the 100 anniversary 72 and it clearly states that the they are jigged bone handles, not delrin, so there is another 72 for you to collect, since you seem to have only the delrin ones.
i will take some pics when i have the time and post them here for you to see and to read.

btw, looking at the scales on my knife thru a loupe they also look as if they are jigged bone and if they aren't bone, then they are a very good imitation.

i suppose this needs more investigating

Chet -- Under magnification, can you see the vein pores along the edges of the handles and where the handles are hafted?

Man, this is becoming more of a conundrum than my weak mind is prepared to cope with.

Edit: Notice the certificate also says the blade is etched. It just doesn't say what's etched on it. Ducks for a centennial knife is kind of odd. You would think the etch would say 100 years or something about it being a centennial model. Crazy.

Well I just got off my lazy arse and drug mine out along with my cheap 45x Chinese microscope and you're right. It is bone.

that is why i don't think this is the proper box and paperwork for this knife. but it is the way i bought it back in 2008. i never gave it a second thought till now.

do you have that box and paperwork with your anniversary? you can have these if you don,t.

You sure are right about that Jerry.May be this will clear things up some.My knife is #72B three blade knife, (Ole Smokey) , jigged brown bone handles.I cant wait to git the knife in hand.It came with the original box so may be it will give the info we need or at the very least some new info.

Dang, knifetime. It was bad enough it's an "Ole Smoky" but now it has bone handles too. Now I gotta have one.

I just got the Camillus 72B we had talked about in this post and all I can say is WoW what a nice knife.Bone handles and all mint.The knife, box and papers look like they did from the factory.It is my first 72 and I can sure see why you would want one.I have fond a new love the 72s.Now to find another lol.

I got some pics of the 72B.They are not as good as the store pics but they are closer to the right color of the bone.I saw right of that the bone color and jigging where the same as on the Remington Bullet remakes I have that where made by Camillus.The muskrat looks darker but it is the same color.

I'm sold on the 72 thanks to you guys.I had never given them much thought until l read some of the post on AAPK and saw some nice pics of the 72.Thanks

By golly, you're right. It is the same jigging. Looks like the same bone & jigging as on the 100 year anniversary that has ducks engraved on the blade. I'm guessing all three were made around the same time.

That is what I thought to,same bone.
I no the Remington is a 1988.

I'm just guessing but the Camillus was probably made right around the same time. That tang stamp is generally accepted as being first used in 1989 or so which begs the question, how could that knife be a 100 year Anniversary knife when the Camillus anniversary was 1976? I like cold hard facts and all that information just doesn't jive for me.

I found something that may help us.
This is from"History of Camillus"
In 1902 Kastor, purchased a small cutlery manufacturing firm in Camillus , N.Y. from Charles Sherwood. That was the beginning of Camillus Cutlery Company. Imported and U.S. made knives were under both Kastor and Camillus names.
So Kastor was in business in 1872 he did not buy Camillus till 1902 that would make the 100 year Anniversary 2002 and right about the same time your knives were made.

I understand your reasoning knifetime and you may be on to something. When Camillus released their 100th anniversary knives they put 1876-1976 on the COA's but the COA for this knife never really states it's an anniversary knife. Read it and let me know what you think. In my opinion, it's cleverly worded to be ambiguous.

Made a good sales pitch.You are right about that COA"ambiguous"was a good word for it.
I did E-Mail SMKW so maybe we can git some new info there.

It will be interesting to see what SMKW says.
