Thanks for postin' this Joe. Looks like your well on your way to havin' another good one for the collection.
So does replacing the throw spring on the Suresnap require unpinning the back bar, or can it be worked into place around the tab?

WB, tomorrow I will finish disassembling the frame.

The first thing I'm going to do before dis-assembly is to try to hook a dental pick under the
spring tab and see if I can pull it up enough to free the spring.
I'm REALLY hoping this will work because you won't have to disassemble the whole knife
to replace a broken spring.

I'm going to grind and tap the hollow pins out and replace them with solid ones.
This should really tighten-up the whole knife assembly.

I will trace the radius of the spring when I get it out and take some measurements so we will be
able to make replacement springs for the Shur-Snaps.

The sheer is broken off on the other knife so I have my work cut out to make a new one.
This will involve a lot of filing on a piece of solid stock, but at least it is simple in design
unlike the Imperials contoured sheer design.
One scale is also broken on the other knife, so new custom handles will be in the plans...
Might as well make solid bolsters while I'm at it...

The back spines on the Colonial and Imperial are made of two flat pieces, placed side by side???
Does anyone know why there were made this way?

I've noticed that on the spines too. I had always wondered if 1 of 'em had a notch or a hole or something that was easier to do by having it in 2 pieces. I saw in one of your pics that you have one of the little Imperial fob autos. The one I have, has a one piece spine, so it seems that it was something they did on the toothpicks only.
The hollow tube "pins" seemed like a decent idea, atleast on the main pivot. It would act as a bushing for the blade to ride on and the blade tension could be set before the through pin was used to attach the bolsters. The hole in the blade is oversized and will require a fairly large pin to replace it.
What have you got in mind for your handle material? I've got atleast a couple of sets of handles to do, too. I was thinking black paper micarta or possibly corolon. Both are reasonably easy to machine and polish out nicely.

O.K. Here's the spring in the Colonial Shur-Snaps.
DON'T remove the pivot pin if you only intend to replace the spring!!
(It is more like a standoff/bushing than a pin and would be hard to make a new one.)

And here's the Presto.

The scales on the Presto are made from some type of VERY crappy composite plastic.
Expect to make new ones.
The scales hold the lock and button in place on all 3 knives.

I will post dimensioned drawings of all the small parts for all 3 knives.

All three are almost the same in design.

on american button knives spring replacement is by far the most straight forward repair and for the most part usually only need to remove 1 pin in most of George Schrade's designs. I sell drop in replacement springs for most american autos. They usually need a little tuning, most need about 1/8" or so snipped off the length which is easily enough done. Better to have them a little long than too short.

Here's an EIG CUTLERY picklock from the early 50's. It has a full brass liner which I'm told dates it.
