Wow! I don't know if I can compete with some of those, but I will try. These range from 4 1/8 to 4 1/4 inches. Lamplough Cutlery (German), Schrade Cutco, and Case 1965-69 5299 1/2. The Schrade does not have half stops but the other two do.

I am a Case collector but I know what I like Case or not

OE, love the stag on that one.

TR, real pretty knive, all of them. But being a CASE guy, love the 99 "Rail Splitter"

Singin, All beauties but I love the green bone on the middle knife.

Here is another couple...

CASE XX 6299 in Rough Black 4-1/8"

CASE XX 6294 in what I consider to be CASE XX Red Bone (opinions may vary) 4-1/4"

This Jackknife is about 4 1/8 inches closed with knice stag. The knife was made by Harrison Bros & Howson circa 1880-1900. The tang, spring and bolsters are all flush at the end. The second photo (left) shows this and the size relative to a regular jack.

Hey TJ,

I did some research on this and here is the best I can tell...

In looking in Steve's book and my other price lists/reference materials, I see that only handle material that the 31 pattern was offered with a Saber blade was slick black, across multiple eras/years. All the reference material, refers to "2231-1/2 SAB", probably to avoid confusion.

I only have two CASE "2231-1/2 SAB". One is a 1974 like Cutty's, the other is a CASE XX as I posted. Both only have the "31 SAB" model stamp. Not sure why not the full pattern number, maybe Steve has some thoughts. My thought would be that only handle type offered/made in that frame with a Saber blade.

A pic of the 31SAB XX pile side I posted. Can't see the whole stamp but I just checked the knife, "31SAB". You can see that the model number starts with a 3 and is not preceded by "22", if you enlarge the pic.

BTW, in my research on this I found out that the 4231-1/2 I posted is "somewhat scarce" according to Steve's book. Notice the lack of shield. Was a SFO and some had advertising.

Regards, Jerry

Thanks Jerry. The one that I have has only the 31SAB pattern number. Case XX USA (64-69). The 2231 would also fit this description: 2-blades, slick black handles.

No problem TJ. Hope it helped. Nice USA you got there.

Nice 31SAB Cutty!

Some awesome stag S-K!

Beautiful knife upnorth! Even though I am a Case collector, I do appreciate other manufacturer's knives.

Perry, some beautiful knives! What model is the USA Rough Black?

Couple of CASE TESTED 31 frames...

CASE TESTED 6231 (possibly a 62031) Long pull "Bearhead" in Rough Black

CASE TESTED 6231-1/2 Long Pull in Rough Black

Regards, Jerry
