thats one of them centennials they made in 1998 celebrating 100 yrs of manufactured... made several
different patterns...as far as I think I know, some of the patterns were by
order only. so there is not that many around, nice one bud...

I think right here in this forum in it's own thread would work best. Any disagreement, shout it out. Maybe Dimitri, Phil or Dale could make it a sticky here.

Obviously Stagman has the inside track on latter-day "real" Marbles knives. Even after reading the posts i am bewildered. Stagman, write a little book on them (digital) and some of us would prolly make it worth your time; you could at least be poor and famous!
I have two old ones (stag on stag woodcraft and ideal) and I did have a boy scout woodcraft (leather handle) but I think somebody else has it now. Hmm.... somehow my ability to post images has disappeared.

hope it helps ya all out...I have talked to a lot of Marble's collectors over the yrs
living in the Mitten part time, and I actually always kept a little note pad with me
at shows, auctions, estate sales, etc. and gathered a lot of usefull tid bits from collectors

By the way TR, I looked up that big Bark River you just got, if I find one in antique
bone stag, I am gonna get it, heck of a piece of cutlery !!!

You guys are showing some nice Gladestones I have two that I use every hunting season as the original sheaths are loooong gone.

Thanks for the link Stagman before old Ben past he did replace the sheath with a modern Marbles one.As you can see by the scratches Ben was rough with a stone ,I will never buff them out cause that's the way he was..

Love a Woodcraft

Found a pic.

You guys have some sweet Woodcrafts. I would like to try one out around the farm sometime but just can't bring myself to do it with one I have . . . yet. The blade design looks perfect for multi-use purposes. I just need to find a decent user condition one. The Estwing tester, Rocky, has a similar blade shape.

2002-2008 had the 0170-6C high carbon vanadium steel
J Bruce Voyles did a test with Bob Doziers help on the cutting ability of the Marble's Woodcraft
for Knives Illustrated magazine, old vs new...both knives impressed him, and he thought the newer ones were the best value money wise and the way they cut on the market !!! and I reckon
he has handled a few knives in his days !!!
Both are excellent, you just cannot go wrong with a Woody !!!

I am enjoying the knives posted here. I have long been a fan of Marble's knives. There are many variations of the woodcraft knife with different handle materials and stamps.

Here are some Marble's Woodcraft models that I have.

From left to right in the first picture they are:

First model knife with small stamp, XXXX pattern cross hatching in the blade spine and stag cap marked PAT. PEND on pile side tang.

Very early transition knife with small stamp, parallel line hatching on spine, mushroom aluminum pommel with 1/2" nut marked PAT PEND on pile side.

Buster Brown model marked Brown SHOE CO. on mark side and Marble's on pile side.

Buster Brown model with larger etch out on blade, marked Marble's on front tang and Brown Shoe CO. ST. LOIUS USA on reverse.

Full stag handle with small stamp marked PAT'D 1916 USA. on reverse, correct 1/2" retaining nut.

Leather with aluminum pommel marked PAT'D 1916 USA. on reverse.

Leather with aluminum pommel, Moose and Goose sheath.

Full stag with no handle pins. Plain unmarked sheath.

Wayne, Those are some serious Woodcraft's....

No wonder I can't find any...you got them all...

My,,my,,my,, Wayne, what a nice group !!! You & me both enjoying it as Marble's
does not get a lot of press on a pocket knife site...
I was on a fishing trip in the UP of Michigan in 1998...
Craig Lauerman, owner of Marble's, and Mike Stewart really took care of the
Joe Lunch Bucket type customer..was by the factory and the little retail store
down the road...from that 1st knife *An Ideal* I picked up, I knew Marble's
was back on top of the production type fixed blade knife world,
I told Craig some years later Webster Marble would be proud of him...
been hooked on that era knives ever since with the way Craig treated me...
thats why Marble's knives is 90% of what I have accumulated since then and sell in my AAPK store

Thanks stagman! I thought I had a PM from you but I can't find it now.

I am new to the site. I also moved about 5 years ago and a lot of stuff went into storage boxes. So when I find a new thread here, I have to do some digging, both mentally and physically.
