Thanks Joe, and that is where I got these, at the flea market. I am still not sure what they are made for? I am guessing some commercial textile, like canvas or sailcloth? I weighed the big ones once, but forget the exact weight. I think it was about 5lbs. I wouldn't want a job where I had to use them all day!

The lower blade rests on a platform/table and is used in that manner, thus the raised handles.
I see them cutting old hemp sheets for the swabbies!

Good call Joe. I wouldn't have figured that. Nice post Kathy, the people on this thread are so good that can make scissors interesting! Now I'll probably start collecting scissors and shears.

Years ago a guy gave me a huge pair of old scissors, shears really and I thought it was an odd gift at the time. It turned out that I use them all the time and keep them handy.

Go after those scissors, Mike. They are interesting and you can get them for cheeep.
Here's another pair I need to get in here. Boker. I think I paid 3 bucks for these.

That fits my budget. Flea market season will be here soon...

I agree, I have even found myself looking for them at the flea markets.

Ive got some nice scissors i used for floor laying for many years, ill dig them out my tool box friday and take a pic, i remember thay have a shamrock on them i think , you have some nice ones there,

Here are a pair of scissors I found in a shed of all places

It is an Augustus Knecht combination scissors and letter opener in a fitted scabbard.

The handles and scabbard are very ornate and well done.

The best thing about it is the scissors double as a Dagger when closed, it has a ridge down each side and the edges are sharp, suitable for stabbing

Here is neat set of folding scissors, just 2 3/8" folded. Sharp, tight and great springs. Only mark says PATENT.
The MOP is in fine shape too.....

I am really liking the scissors all, glad that you started this thread knifegirl888. IMBand that is a beautiful pair. They are of a very interesting design, and its not too often that I see MOP on scissors. Also, I like the GI issue pair Gringo. They are very neat to see. MB, that pair is fantastic. The double taper with the central ridge is really unique, those are by NO means an ordinary pair or scissors. I also collect scissors, shears and the like, and will have to dig some out to photograph. Here are a couple.

2) American Shear Co. from Woodbury Connecticut pair of garden pruners. Quite old.

They look to be missing a few component, a clasp to hold them closed, and potentially some time of spring mechanism where the brass plates are attached on the handles, but they are still a very strong pair of pruners

American Shear Co. is one of my favorite New England companies, very hard to find examples of their work.

Here's a pair of pruning shears with what I think are Japanese markings. I've always wondered if they were ever used for Bonsai pruning.

Thanks Beechtree! I did use 'em quite a bit last summer, harvesting zucchini's. They worked great! I've tried a couple of times, but havn't been able to find just the right spring for 'em yet.

I bought these two 10" scissors recently. Just had to have them. They are nice scissors though.
I didn't sharpen them and they cut like a dream.
The U.S.A. made pair says "Deluxe". I guess that explains the shim between the blades.
I wonder how many more scissors I need?

Nice Joe. That Klass looks like a really good pair. I know what you mean about how many scissors one can have. But, they are infectious.
Here are a few oldies.
AMERICAN SHEAR Co. (Top) Seamstress shears. Marked number, 1. They Measure about 11.5". A really swell pair.
EMPIRE KNIFE CO. WINSTED CT. PATENTED FEBY 4 69 (Bottom). Large button hole scissors with adjusting screw, 5".

HOLLEY MFG Co. Button hole scissors 3.75". (missing adjusting screw)
HOLLEY (Looks like HOLLFY, but I do believe it is HOLLEY). Button hole scissors 4". I think these are older than the previous pair. They have no whole for an adjusting screw.
