i prefer them with no nail nick as dont really need one as easy to pull out , although mine has one, i think they added the nail nick in the early 80's

Zed;Mine is a no nail nic 2 dot I got in 1974-75, At first I didn't like it, big hands hard to pinch the blade for one hand operation but I spent my aprenticeship learning to pinch the blade to flip,the 112 and LB7 turned out to be my go to knives at work As an electrician I never used a so called electricians knife but I have a Klien with 3 blades(h1,p,r3) on one pouch and a Schrade model 204 on my main pouch.Both very well made.

cool to have a good work knife,

i really like my 112, i even buffed the blade up a little bit the other day as pretty scratched up, but its a real user

I'm hoping to get this one into some real work this deer season.

I did some work in the garden on thursday so took the 112 with me, here is a pic in the sun this has too be one of my all time favourite knives, so comfy in the hand, shame i cant edc it legaly

The Buck 110's & 112's are like the energizer bunny.....they keep going.......and going........and going.....

I'm new here but, have enjoyed the site for some time.
As soon as I figure out how to post pics from my iPhone, I'll post my latest find:
a no nail nic, 2 dot 112 (w/case).
It needs a little TLC; looks like it's lived in it's case for a while based on the verdigris.
Any cleanup/recondition suggestions would be most welcomed!

P.S. I almost bought a micarta-handled 112 from the same guy but, the blade was almost non-existent!

If you can get that Micarta cheap enough you might want to grab it for the just the scales. You could watch for a no nic blade of the same era on bad ebony scales and swap them. Mircarta scales are the first and second issues of the model 112. They are a little tough to come buy in good shape. At least they would be good trade material for someone nuts about 112s.

But not me I am over that era of life........ My 2, shedua scaled, no nic 112s will be enough for me........300Bucks

Even for a well-used example, I'm very happy with the deal I got on this C1/V1 (I came out equally well on the C3/V4, too!)

Just joined this fine forum. Also learned a few things. I love my Buck 112 and as a plus, just found out it is also a 2-dot, no nail pic.

Now that I found the original box from L.L.BEANS how'd ya like this price 20BUCKS ::ds::The sheath on the left is the original(low slung) the one on the right is the third sheath

Can you post a picture showing the basic approach.

I know how to use car door jams and bike pedals. I *can* use the edge of a work bench, but it makes a bit of a mess.

Like starting a fire, there are just somethings that a man needs to know how to do, so opening a bottle with my 112 would be a big win.

I thought I'd revive the old 112 thread with some pics I took over the weekend. ( and I don't understand the bottle cap trick, mentioned above, either )

Buck lockbacks have always been my favorite, and over the last couple of years, the 112 has been my favorite to carry every day, and to use around the home and garden. As I started to write this, I realized that I think these represent all 3 types of steel used in the evolution of the model.

My first is the square edged 2 dot, no nick that I got from a forum member a couple of years ago. It has great ebony scales and is as new. I don't sharpen or carry it.

The finger grooved one is from 2009. I purchased it new, and use it alot. The finger grooves fit my hand perfectly, and it is very comfortable to use. I sharpen it with my Lansky, and it holds an edge very well. I believe Buck still uses ebony for the 112 scales, but if so, it appears to be 4 layers of veneer glued together, not the solid Macassar slab like the two older ones shown.

The third one I just got a good deal on, (top pic, middle), and is a 4 dot with nicely striped scales. The blade had some scratches, but appears to have been sharpened very little. I've sanded out most of the scratches, and plan to put a full mirror polish on it. It's nice and tight, and is a good 112 to put to use.
