All About Pocket Knives

Absintheur - good review. Those are three very attractive knives you have there. I am glad to read that you are pleased with your whittler. I have three Colt pocket knives and have been pleased with two of them. The only one that I did not like was the whittler like yours. On mine the main blade was binding on the secondary blades, making it difficult to open or close, plus the main blade tang had some problems. I did some grinding and cured the problems, but by then I was not so enamored with the knife. I really do like the way it looks.

Since the question of the origin of Colt's patterns was mentioned, I am posting a photo of my Colt alongside a Case Classic. I have wondered if someone at Colt made a decision to copy the Case. I do not know if there was an identical knife before the Case. Certainly lots of very similar knives.

Don't worry about that. There are numerous threads on this site that have faded out then reappeared later, sometimes years later. Some of them are among the most interesting on this site in my opinion.

By the way, I found the comparison between the Case knife design and the Colt very interesting.

The colt my good friend sent me still holding up and staying sharp.

Several Christmases ago there was a good bit of posting going on about the Chinese knives and the (then) new Road Runner brand. So, I wanted to see what all the hubbub was about and I started looking around on eBay. I discovered KyKnives (that fella that lives down close to Philco). All his auctions started at a penny and offered free shipping. I went slightly hog wild and for less than $10 each, I bought several RR knives along with a couple of Marbles and a Colt. The Colt was (in my opinion) the best of the lot. I ended up giving away almost all those knives, save about a half dozen that I kept for one reason or another. The Colt was one of the keepers.

kwailo -- Had to look that one up. Learned something today.

I got a Canoe Pattern Colt a few years back and it as nice as my China made Buck Canoe which I had to send back cause the glued on scale popped off in my pocket. Buck fixed it no problem. I am looking at their large copper stock man.
