Is the pattern number etched or stamped.

Dimitri, It is stamped. I would like to have a inked tang stamped Remington. I have never seen one in real, just pictures.

I almost had an ink stamped Remington at the flea market last year, someone in front of me grabbed the knife before I could. I looked over his shoulder as he examined it and it was ink stamped, in unused condition

Most likely alot of guys like me, just found the site, still not to sure how to post pics, there has got to be hundreds of small collectors that just need to ACT. I mainly collect bullets but have found myself looking at all Remingtons now at shows etc.

Here is a nice one I have. It still has the blade etch

sorry, this thread got away from me.
I don't know if they were made in Bridgeport. I don't know how to identify that.
The toothpick if from 1935-1940 per Goins, but the little equal end has me puzzled. (see pictures please)
It has two different stamps. The main has the obvious 1924-1933 stamp, but the little pen has either the 1921-1924
or the 1924-1933 stamp. The last stamp is in question because I can't see the bottom of the stamp.
Knowing this wont make the fish bite, but I would like to know if I should load my rod or not.

And while I'm at it, I thought I would show off this great muskrat I picked up not long ago.
It has a beautiful wide spring on it. I love these muskrats with these fine, elegant blades.
It is 3 15/16" long.

Beautiful old muskrat. The stamps on the Remington's are often mixed like the ones on the little pen knife, I don't think it's a concern. The straight line stamping is the mark of a contract knife, they are usually of a lesser quality.

Here's the few I have. slim jack R1033, equal-end no #, serpentine whittler R7495, sleeve-board R6655. Slim.

If the EE is 3 5/8" long it is probably an R333. Remington sometimes used an inked on pattern number and, of course, that pattern number would be worn off with use.

Thanks guys, and thanks for the info msteele6. I thought it was probably a inked-on but I have quite a few knives that require a good loupe and some imagination to read the pattern numbers. Slim.

hey folks, thanks for looking. i hope i have sent some pics of two of my knifes(really my only two, i am not a collector) i do think i have a couple of older knifes. i have taken them to a couple of gun shows and have not really gotten a straight answer. i am hoping someone will tell me about the knifes. i think the r1173 is an original but dont know for sure. i have had these for a long time. any help from anyone would be appreciated. thanks again

The 1173 does not appear to be original. I can say with some certainty that the handles are not original, the shield also looks suspect. Probably nothing Remington about it. The other knife looks more promising, you would need to post the length to get any kind of opinion. I rarely see Remingtons without shields, however, they may have manufactured some that I am unaware of. There is a member whose screen name is remington collector who might have more information on that. Maybe he will weigh in at some point.

hey thanks for your input. the largest knife is about 4 1/2" closed, and is, about 8 1/4" opened with the longest blade. one guy told me it was a cigar, does that mean anything? thanks again
