O.K. I'm predictable...
I'd reopen BOKER USA in Maplewood, NJ (Probably revive the Valley Forge brand too)
The first pattern would be this one, complete with the acorn shield! Why? Because I've been trying to buy one of the originals, and thegreedygulo has 'em all! Now for the question:

What were you doing when you cut yourself with your pocketknife the first time? (if you can't remember that far back, describe the most recent time you cut yourself with your pocketknife)

__ the very first knife show, that I went to ( I was ""X-ITED and had a handful of cash)___ after walkin' around the entire floor,several times,I couldn't find a knife,that really flipped my switch ??? ___ I thought about buying a gun ( there were lots of them**) but,wanted a knife from my ""first show""___ one of the dealers,I had talked to early that morning, and purchased some handle materials from,_____was also a custom knife maker ____ went back to his table,talked for about knives for an hour,__ I just had to buy a knife from him ________( not one but two,so I could get a better price )___ I still like the knives, but everytime I pass them in my display, I think of how many "kool pocket knives",I could have bought, with the money I spent on the two "customs"

Cut myself yesterday, _________lawn mower belt,came off and I was going to cut it off the pulleys ( got my fingers in the way, I guess ???___ boy these knives hold an edge !!!!!!!!!!!

(Question)__Can you put a ""razor edge"" on your own pocket knife or do you get someone else to sharpen it for ya' ??? ( I can sharpen mine""OK"",but get my buddy to finish it on a diamond stone )

I can get mine hair trimming sharp with ceramics. I have a variety of pieces and a few sticks. If the knife is in bad shape then I have to start with a stone.
My question: Do you worry about moisture getting after your collection? If so what do you do to prevent it?

Wazu, I worry about that continually. Here in the south there's more moisture in the air than there is in the water. The best I can do is to keep all my knives in cloth rolls that are kept in a cool, dark place, and hope that the humidity doesn't vary enough to cause condensation.

Question - Do you have a good written or computer inventory of your knives, including pattern, maker, date purchased, price, etc?

Boy...not even close. Unfortunately, if my knives were gone tomorrow, I wouldn't be able to remember half of them. I keep saying I need to do that, but never get around to it. I also justify my indecision by the fact that I have more than one of a certain maker's pattern, and that it would be hard to catalog that. Yeah, I know, that's a weak argument.

My question...do you admit that you have an addiction to knives? (As in, you can't stop buying them?)

I have most of what I buy or have bought in my head. Been meaning to do the inventory with software I bought for that but never get around to it. I will someday, maybe LOL.

Question, If you could go back in time and work in an old factory, which one would it be. David you are not allowed to answer this one

It would be at the Ulster Knife Co a few years after Dwight Divine took over in 1876, so probably starting about 1880.

Question: Again going back in time; if you could visit any of the now closed US knife factories and choose one knife for your collection, which factory would you visit and which knife would you choose?






Wow! I just went back and read through this thread, it was started June 2nd, 2005, over 7 years ago! PA Knives started it about 4 days after he joined. AAPK had all of 109 members!

It took from August of 2004 until May of 2005 for AAPK to reach the 100 members mark.
There have been a lot of changes here on AAPK since then and AAPK has added over 8000 members, (current membership is 8284)!

It is interesting that this thread is back to life after all these years.

Schatt & Morgan, Gowanda! The history of S&M was the first I came across years ago, that totally fascinated me. There've been many since. I'd love to have a brand new one of their large toothpicks!!

Question: When you step back and look at your collection, what defines it? Pattern, brand, handle material or etc...? (i.e. for me, any and all toothpicks are fair game, so I consider myself a pattern collector)

Taking an overview of my collection is like listening to opera. There just ain't much rhyme or reason to it.
I've got Canal Streets, Boy Scout knives, Case, Schrade, tons of junkers nobody else would want to keep, German made knives, fixed blade knives, you name it......and I love em all.

I have given away at least a dozen knives and prolly closer to 20, mostly to AAPKers.
(If we are counting the spouse.....well then almost 100) I started collecting about
a year and a half ago and as I refined my groups I let her pick alot of the knives
to keep rather than resell them.

Ok, I just have to answer this one, but i'll leave it open for someone else to answer and ask a question.
Occasionally grater break in the ledge rock along our roads leaves sharp sherds exposed. About 5 or 6 years ago, I ended up with a slice halfway up the sidewall of one of my truck tires. After the mornings hunt, the tire was flat. I was parked in heavy brush and the spare was gonna be a real pain to get to. I took out my 8OT, opened the sheepsfoot to the halfway point and used it fill the slice. Then I duct tapped it, filled the tire with 2 cans of fix-o-flat and drove about 15 miles to the service station (at 10-15 mph) to have the tire replaced. I can't think of another tool at my disposal at the time, that would have worked as well. The knife survived and I eventually made it home.

How many have I given away in the last year? Eight that I can remember right now; three to Guardsmen either deploying or retiring from service and five to teenagers or older boys who I took hunting and then taught to clean their game.

Weirdest job - if it can be done with at pocketknife it ain't weird!

I love knives period and they feel good in my hand and are the best tool to have I also think I like the fact that my Mom, who is 85 can't take them from me anymore!!!

OK, that's my cue to join in here! I took my 9yr old son Samuel to the Badger Knife Show in Janesville WI just this past spring. It was a great adventure for us, as we got up early in the morning, stopped at a truckstop for donuts and orange juice, and got there just after they opened the doors on Sunday. He was enthralled by the whole scene (as was his daddy), he was chatting everybody up, checking out the blades and the knife books....he especially liked the collections of miniature knives on display. Of course with him being so chatty with all the kind folks there, he was the lucky recipient of three free knives including one from Keith aka Ozzie Marie. We also met Jerry and his family, a really nice crew! Samuel and I couldn't stay as long as we would have liked, but it was very cool for us to have our own little adventure without his sister or momma...good ol' male bonding.

Yes! Back in high school. At a party a drunken ex-boyfriend of a girl that I had recently started dating pulled one on me out of the clear blue. Luckily I was able to talk him into stepping outside and fighting me like a man if he felt it necessary. We did and after it was all over he gave me the same knife as he was heading to his car with his tail tucked. I still have the knife.

My most expensive knife is a TUNA VALLEY CUTLERY in mint condition. I found a set of three (yes I had my choice) and picked the best one. The others are long gone as this was a salesman sample role that Bernard Levine had found and it ended up for sale by Art Green. I bought one for Drum roll please $800. it is a small ladies knife in pearl. I will have it at the CASE reunion for those that want to see one. I can say that it would take considerably more than $800 to pry it out of my hands too.

My question: Have you ever met Mike Losicco (Galvanic 1882) and thought that you might acutually have a knife he hasn't seen or owned??? Gothca MIKE
