hmm. milestone post for me 500 is a pretty decent number, so I guess I better have some substance here...

First, for FTD, 13C26 is a Sandvik chromium stainless steel. Sandvik has been getting playtime by alot of manufacturers lately I think because
1) they do make a decent range of steels, and they seem to keep availability up, unlike Crucible sometimes
2) the steels sound exotic but generally are not. it's all about marketing and slapping a big 440 on a blade anymore is tantamount to growing a Hitler mustache (despite 440C still being a really good steel!)

Anywho, 13C26 is a lower end, low alloy stainless. Carbon= .68% Chromium=13% so it makes the cut "Officially" as a stainless steel. I'd expect performance to be equivalent with say AUS6 or 440A


Onto the meat and potatoes. My last post was traditionals, now for some non traditional knives with back locks:
customized Spyderco Kopa and a completely rebuilt Spyderco CLB Lava





Both of these have what Spyderco refers to as a "Boyle dent" on the lockbar, kind of a scoop/indentation to keep it sitting low in the frame to prevent white knuckle unlocks. it's an odd idea, but I can see the merit.

This is a Wostenholm circa 1920-30s.

should work here. Guard locks in bolster.

Here is a Bear Workhorse. It's not much to look at, but it's tough as nails. Also, because it is so thin, it is less noticeable in a pocket - for me, that means I can carry it to work. Otherwise I have to carry a little bitty knife.

Here are pretty much the remainder of my lockbacks that are worth viewing excepting Bucks which have been covered.. I tossed in a different mechanism by Gerber. from top to bottom they are a Schrade SG-7,2001 Boker, 2004 Boker, Klein Tool, The Gerber mentioned above, Western, Kershaw and a Ka-bar.

Phil, You may not be aware of the new US Patent that Case has applied for. It's done on the appropriate peanut '20 pattern in fact. I happen to have one of the few prototypes. Unfortunately Ive lost the key to mine.

Here's an Uncle Henry LB 8 from the late great Schrade Corp.

A Schrade SP2. I'm guessing they were impressed by Gerber's success with this style knife. Could be wrong though, for all I know the Gerbers could be patterned after the Schrades. Great little knives, from either company.
