Federal Factory loads. Same ones they factory test target with. Match King 168 grain.
Nice Python. I have the 6 inch blued Python circa ~1980. Just got factory emblem Pacmyer grips on it. Post a new pic later at some point. About a 2 pound scary trigger pull. Crazy prices on unfired ones now. 5 to 10 grand. Never sell that one as Dad and I shot it together for years every weekend after a night of single stage .38 handloads.
I have the 4 inch Diamondback .38 also. Circa 1968. Just ordered a leather holster for it. That will be crossdraw backup EDC from time to time.

The thing I like about revolvers is, that when the chips are down, you don't have to think about how to bring the handgun to battery. People shun them because of the limited firepower but all it takes is one or two really well placed shots. Anyway, that's my philosophy. I used to be pretty good at instinctual point and shoot... not using the sights. I practiced it a lot, by focusing on my target/POI.... and letting my brain/hands connect the dots. Once you get that connection going, it's about as good as it gets for practical use.

I do have a few semi-autos... an old Colt 1908 Pocket pistol in 380acp (1926), a Kimber Custom Eclipse 1911(1st year) and a H&K VP9 LE edition. The VP9 is my first polymer handgun. I really like it! That target was my 1st time out with it, at 10yds, unrested free hold, using the sights though.

Been years since I have hand loaded Dave.
Still have all my Dad's old school single stage, Beam scale, etc that I plan on breaking out here in the near future.
Spent 3 days of my vacation at the range this week and I'm not a rich man so it will be more practical to hand-load. + fun to play with different loads.

I once shot a Ruger Security Six that was so light and smooth double action you had to wonder how it went bang every time. Always wanted a six gun....

Thanks Unk! It is a really nice Python. It's unfortunate they have gotten so valuable. I just can't justify shooting it any more.

On the flip side... one of my favorite handguns to take shooting, is this S&W Model 629 Classic. I have taken it hunting with me. With open sights and my hand resting on a sand bag, it has shot 3" groups at 100 yds, with open sights. I had the Performance Center tune the action and it is perfect. I have a shoulder rig for it and it sits under my left arm, when in the rig. When I was hunting in South Africa, I was allowed to carry it and even went into stores with it strapped on. In a Walter Mitty sort of way, I felt like Dirty Harry. It was cool!!!!

Thank you, Dave. Yes, minimalist for sure. I haven't carried this gun in this holster. I'm not sure what I think of it but I like the option.
I have other holsters for it as well including a shoulder holster. I don't carry this gun but I think I will try to use the shoulder holster this winter.

Sometimes y'all go way over my head and I have to resort to the internet to figure out what you're talking about.
Example: a FOID card , looked it up and now I know. I also know I'm glad Floridians don't have to deal with such!
Reading a little further, I would assume Illinois must be one of the safest states to live as 90% of the public say they support and abide by these laws but then you read the stats for just Chicago,(I found a site that keeps a daily running total of shootings)it is just unbelievable!
Gun trades apparently aren't done between good ol' boys, like we trade knives here on AAPK.
This discussion could go in many directions but we all need to realize how close we are to losing the 2nd Amendment to our Constitution! This presidential election will probably lead to several Supreme Court appointments. Do y'all want to have to get permission to give or trade a gun to another? Apparently several states already require similar action as Illinois does.
If I were a betting man, I would bet the farm, that politicians who support such restrictive gun legislation, as that in Illinois, all have armed security around them. What are they afraid of? They have made the state safe by passing laws that everyone adheres to!

Dave, one of my best friend's Dad was a Texas Ranger. He was killed in the line of duty while we were in High School in 1978. The next year in Wood Shop, my friend made a beautiful walnut box with the Colt logo engraved on top to store his Dad's service revolver - a Colt Python - in. Every time I see a Python, I think of that.

I still hunt and shoot clays with my buddy several times a year..... 4 decades later.

Illinois is a mecca for Liberals. No Philip, the Great State of Chicago does not require you to get "permission" to give, trade or sell a firearm to another individual but you are supposed to record their FOID card information and keep that information until at least ten years after your death.

Great pickup dogg. How to like the trigger? I call those scorpion tail triggers personally. Think my MP 22 has the same setup but have not shot that one much.

Picked up a great "Certified Pre Owned" SIG 229 in 40 caliber. Fomerly LEO CARRY trade in. SIG strips them down, all new springs and replace any worn parts. Comes with 2 mags. My LGS had them for $587 OTD. There's a specific gun dealer that had about 200 left last I looked. I forget their name though but if anyone's interested let me know and I'll find out.

Here's an unusual one I have. A heavy barrel S&W Model 10-6 factory chambered in 357 Magnum. There weren't many made like this. It was the predecessor to the Model 13.

Good and hot today, so I did some work in the shed; loaded 270 WIN ammo (130 grain Hornady Interlock, Federal GM210M primers, with Hodgdon H4831SC) - that combo has killed plenty of whitetail from my M70FW. My rifles are ready except for one more range trip to double check zero's. OH

Working on some firearms from my late National Guard buddy's estate - going to help his wife sell them off. This Winchester 20 gauge shotgun was in nearly new condition, except someone had shortened it for a kid or lady and glued the slip-on buttpad on! I was worried that after getting the glue off I would find a ruined finish and have to refinish the wood BUT that miracle elixir, Birchwood Casey Stock Sheen and Conditioner, did it's magic one more time - look at that walnut! I have a Super-X Model 1 rubber buttpad that will fit just right, after fitting the toe, the gun will have a 13-1/2" LOP - right for most any adult male. OH
