"I'm really not up to the challenge of trying to put a 1 in 250 set back together!"

Do you know how many knives were included in the original set? If only 250 sets were released, it would undoubtedly be difficult to collect a complete set one knife at a time, but not entirely impossible with enough patience and persistence. Although trying to reconstruct a complete set with matching serial numbers would probably be next to impossible; but, nevertheless, a worthy goal and major achievement if you accomplished it.

I think there were 8 knives in the mint set. I actually did mean trying to get the correct serial numbers back together - I have to be realistic and admit that I don't have that kind of patience & persistence. I like the learning and sharing part of my hobbies, but my attention span and budget is just not up to fulfilling major accomplishments. I tend to set much more modest goals for myself - goals that real collectors would scoff at.

Any collector who would scoff at the collection of another for being modest or humble by comparison is a snob and an elitist who fails to grasp the true spirit and joy of knife collecting...it's not a competition, it's a love of and passion for knives, and an appreciation, admiration and respect for others who share the same proclivity regardless of their respective degree of involvement.

Imagine the sheer excitement you would feel if you were able to find even just one other knife from the set, especially one that had a matching serial number. I know that most every other AAPK member would be absolutely thrilled for you and would vicariously share your excitement.

I, for one, sincerely hope you do continue trying to complete the set, with or without matching s/n. And I look forward to the day you find the next one and share it with us here on AAPK.

You are probably aware of this already but the Case "MUSKRAT" is built on a 47 frame as well.

Q, since none of the 6347 WH SS knives I have seen have a wharnecliffe blade or a sheepsfoot blade I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the WH classification is for whittler.

Thanks Greg. That was my guess as well. But. is there any other instance of Case using "WH" to specifically designate a non-wharncliffe-blade-whittler that anyone knows of? I have only ever seen it on knives with a wharncliffe blade until just now, and there's no mention of a special "Whittler" pattern number designation on the Case research page here on AAPK...so that is why I am curious.

That's because you only buy knives with Wharncliffe blades ~Q~.

Here's a Seahorse Whittler with WH Here's a 53046 three spring whittler with a W.H. stamp. Edit: I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that 'WH' indicates Wharncliffe Whittler and 'W.H.' indicates Whittler and just plain old 'W' indicates Wharncliffe main blade. I'm a big boy. I can take the whippin' if I'm wrong.

Although I have a single blade EZ-Open Wharncliffe Copperhead that's stamped with '6049EZ'

"WH" is generally whittler. "W" is generally Wharncliffe blade. My only two Case whittler patterns (aside from the "seahorse" whittlers) are both marked "WH" with no visible periods, and every one of my Cases with a Wharnie blade are marked "W" if diffeentiating from another version, generally such as the mini-copperheads or the TB-line teardrops (I have a box right in front of me for a knife I plan to carry in the near future, TB61028W for my Wharnie-bladed teardrop. My other teardrops do not have the "W". I believe the 55 only carries the "WH" to designate it as a whittler (as which it is pretty obviously identifiable by the blades and layout ) and not an extra, set off "W" because the 55 doesn't come in anything but a Wharnie master.

Again, just speculation bordering on a W.A.G. This is by no means definitive but precisely matches the pattern I've noticed in my Case collecting. YMMV, as always!

Au contraire mon frère. Though I try to avoid it whenever possible, sometimes I actually buy knives with other types of blades because I fall head over heels for the handle.
