Doglegg you are finding some real keepers.

It is great fun chasing these 72 clones although I'm not sure there is ever an ending.

Thanks Greg, I used to wonder why my dog chased her tail. Now I'm beginning to understand the feeling.

Picked up this 72, blades are full, has a faint Socony Vacuum etch which was an oil company which eventually became Mobil.

Great shape on that one JohnR. I doubt it was carried any. Thanks for the explanation on the etch.

Thanks guys, that etch threw me for a bit, was wondering why a vacuum cleaner company would be giving away knives. Google gave me the history of Vacuum Oil which started in 1866, went through a few mergers to become Socony Vacuum and in 1955 became Socony Mobil so I would guess makes this knife earlier than 1955. Wish I could get a picture of the etch, may try a light box.

JohnR, isn't the tang stamp later than 1955? I can't see it well but I thought it is a long line.

Yes, it is a long line. There have been some good discussions on when the long line stamp was first used and I'm not sure if it was ever settled, some place it to the mid 1950's.

I posted more pic's over in the Schrade forum but thought it belonged here as well. Fished out of the bay a Herman Williams customized Schrade 863 with burnt elk handles. I'm in love. Thanks for looking.

Good score!

Beautiful knife. Wondered who won that one. Had a feeling it might show up here.

Thanks David. Awfully glad I got it.
Jerry, it was Mr. Williams himself. Even better to me to get it straight from him. Thanks.
