Went out to do some ice fishing this morning but the ice was no good. Only 3", very cloudy with a lot of fractures, even some spots of open water. Doesn't make a lot of sense since we have had temps in the teens and single digits at night for over a week. Really supposed to warm up next week, so that will ruin it for sure, maybe we'll get another cold blast before spring.

You do realize that you are possibly the only person in your area who hopes for the cold!? I like cold weather too, though ours is not so cold as yours. And most folks here seem to think that anything colder than seventy degrees is too cold! In my whole life (62 years) I have never walked out on an iced lake. Kind of sad - makes me think I should get out more.

I can truthfully say I never one time had an urge to walk out on a frozen lake, pond or whatever.

I always like frosty mornings when the grass and leaves crunch under my feet, or the skim of ice on a marsh. But we do not have enough prolonged cold in my area for any lakes to freeze over solid enough to walk on. I have ventured out on glaciers and snow in the Rockies, but somehow my travels never took me to a frozen lake.

When I was younger I thought that ice fishing looked really cool, but theses days I think it just looks cold.

I've never seen a lake or pond so froze you could walk on it. That sounds like something I ought to see at least once.

I don't know about where he's from, but there isn't here in Kentucky.

When I was a kid we all used to go down to the lake in winter and skate and sled on the lake when it was frozen. It was always alot of fun. I live in that same house as I did as a kid, but haven't done that in years. It looks to me that all thoes cyotes died of lead poisoing. Must have been from Flint Michigan

I've only been out on the ice a few times and the last time scared the heck out of me. I had a new born calf that somehow got out on the ice that covered my farm pond. There was no one around to help me or even watch but I knew if I didn't get that calf off the ice he was going to die of hypothermia. I tied a rope around myself and then tied the other end to a tree so I'd have a way of pulling myself out if the ice gave way. I then slowly inched my way out onto the ice and eventually managed to get the little feller drug back to the bank and his momma. He was a purebred Charolais bull calf that eventually grew to become an excellent herd bull. I named him "Icedancer".

Enjoyed that story Phil! Over the years I've had to rescue a couple of calves that were stuck in mud, and several newborns abandoned by their mommas. Ice thick enough to walk on is rarely a concern, at least not in my part of Texas. Sometimes have to chop a hole through ice in a water trough so the stock can get a drink, though. Temperature here was in 70s today so took advantage of that to clean algae out of water troughs, buckets and chicken waterers. One of the winter chores I've grown to dislike more and more the older I get!
