Yes, the top one is a High Standard Sport King. I inherited it from my Uncle. It was made about 1952, based on the serial number. It has the lever take down in front....they switched over to a button takedown sometime in the mid to late 50s.

It spent the first 64 years of it's life with a 4 inch barrel - see the pic below. I picked up the 6 inch heavy barrel on e-bay a few months ago. I think the heavy barrel came off a High Standard Super Matic, but they are interchangeable and you could buy them out of the catalog back in the day. You can add weights to the bottom of the new barrel.

The barrel swap involves pulling up on the lever and sliding the old barrel off and then sliding the new barrel on. Takes about one second - very slick.

She shot real nice at the range on Friday. I think I prefer the heavy barrel.

I've never owned a High Standard, mainly because many years ago, I acquired this Browning Medalist. It was a 1st year Medalist, made in 1962. Amazingly accurate.

Wellll, maybe not just like Carlos Hathcock.

I read everything I could on him and then watched the available interviews in YouTube back a few years ago. What an amazing talent he was. I think the thing that impresses me more than his shooting, was his mental toughness during egress and extraction, after a successful mission.

I read a bio on Hathcock (Marine Sniper) a couple of years ago. Very impressive guy. Some of my "gun" books accidentally got put into a pile my wife was taking down to sell to Half Priced Books.

I lost that book, along with my bio on John M. Browning, and "Unrepentant Sinner" about Charles Askins (Askins was a semi-crazy SOB - lol)

That Browning is a beauty, Checksix! I have an mid-70s Browning Challenger II. It's very accurate, but only likes to eat the high velocity ammo. It won't cycle consistently on the standard velocity stuff.

The Medalist was a true target pistol, with different counter weights and so forth. It was designed for Standard Velocity Match ammo. It's not real fussy, I have fed it Eley Club Xtra, CCI SV, CCI Pistol Match, Federal Gold Medal Match... I can't tell the difference between them, because at 25 yds, it shoots 10 shots into one ragged hole!

I also have a S&W Model 41, that is almost as accurate.

My buddy used to keep a couple guns around loaded with Rat Shot for Dispatch duty.
One of them was a Woodsman that had been a Grandfather's gun.

I had a heavy barrel Ruger 22/45 that shot pretty good. It was one of several guns sold to get us out of a tight situation....

Both good reads. I have to admit that when I was around him I had no idea he was quite so famous. I knew he was some sort of notable author but that was about all.

Fine firearms being posted Gents. Thanks for sharing.

Spent the last two days at the range. Most the day both times. Spend a lot of time talking on top of the shooting and meet some great people.

Took out the Cooper 308. Incredible gun. I have the Burris Eliminator 3 scope on it.
Scope is pretty amazing. Look at the video on the link if you're interested. Built-in rangefinder and and pinpoint exact hold over based on your ballistics.

Finally got this dial in basically one hole gun.
The attached pics on the paper target is 10 Rounds at a hundred yards.
After that, went to the 100 - 400 yard range. Loaded up one round. About a 5 mile-an-hour crosswind. Took aim at the smallest metal plate which is two and a half inches in diameter. Pretty much dead center hit. I put a 308 empty casing on top of the target if you look for size reference.
School the guy next to me on how the scope and gun worked. Only one shot 400 yards 12 inch plate dead center. Personally, I know I have a good gun when I can put it into someone else's hands has never shot it before and they can make a hit like that.

wrong ammo, of course! Find the ammo it likes!

Never owned a Cooper but I've threatened to buy one several times.

The only interesting firearms to me... are accurate ones! That one qualifies.

I've got a Win M70 Classic in 270WSM that shoots my hand loads really well. Factory stock, no modifications.

5 shot into almost 3/8" c-c, at 100 yds, every time... as long as I do my part.

Unk I love them old cheap 22's. Most of them wind up being fine shooters provided the barrel isn't all leaded up. I never had one that some CCI mini mags wouldn't straighten out.
