I don’t go in for fixed blades often but I saw this one scrolling across the top of the screen the other day. A new seller here on AAPK, I believe, called GKnives. I was impressed with the sellers description of this knife, so rather than mangling that part of this I will just copy and paste what he put in the listing: “All hand made, forged and designed for hard use, excellent edge retention. Finnish traditional knife in the Puukko tradition. This type of knife is versatile, from chore work, carving, fishing, skinning/field dressing game, truly all purpose, I use one everyday. The blade is forged from a W2 steel offering tool steel hardness (W2 is used in drill bits) ......expect great edge retention. The grind allows no secondary bevel, so honing/sharpening is easy and straight forward. (If needed!) The tang extends though the handle and is secured by West Systems long set epoxy as is the 1/4” nickel silver pommel. The handmade sheath is 2-3 oz. veg. tanned leather, with British Saddle Tan color, polished with Neet foot oil to renew the leather and add moisture protection. This sheath is all handmade and custom fit, including a wooden last inside. The sheath alone took many hours to fit, cut and sew. (no machine).”
This knife came hair shaving sharp and has a great feel in hand, I just want to cut something with it every time I handle it. There are small imperfections in the blade that give it character. You can still see some of the grind lines that weren’t polished out, but I think it adds to the beauty of this knife. I am particularly fond of the pommel and how it contours with the stag. When my wife saw and held this knife, it reminded her of her father who use to be a machinist as well as a carpenter. He made some things with metal that resemble the way this pommel was made. I got this to use and I might just put it where she can use it the most. This seller only has one other knife listed here on AAPK, but he says that he sells on Ebay also. I hope we see and hear from him more.

I'm thinking this is a very impressive knife. The remaining one in his store appears to be a very good value at its lower price point.

Honestly Garry I thought this should have been double the price I paid. I wish I wore a belt more often so I could carry this one. Or fished more often, I would love to try this for cleaning fish, I think the size would be perfect for cleaning blue gills, crappies or perch.

Gorgeous. Congrats. love the fitted pommel and the antler. Blade too, but man, that handle and the graceful curve and shape. Beautiful.

Thank you all for the compliments on the knife. I am going to treasure this one and use it. So many knives that I buy I am hesitant to use, but this one is so unique and special that I have to use it. It’s going to be my “go to” knife. Can’t wait to give it a good workout. Keep an eye out for more of his knives in the future. I’m confident you are going to see more available.

Thanks for the compliments on the fixed blade.

Got in these two Marbles for my collection. I already have a blue rope jigged Congress but just couldn’t pass it up when offered another one. The whittler with blue rope jigging is new for me. I love this handle material and it looks best on this smaller knife.

Just visited your store Mark. Didn't see the new Marbles posted. Will you be offering them or keeping them?

I collect these Marbles and I didn’t have the whittler until now. This is my second Congress so I would be okay with selling it, but my intention is to keep the whittler.

Good gracious those are beautiful knives. I love that shade of blue, it's almost the color of the ocean a couple of hundred miles off shore. Where did you buy them or did I miss that info? ::tu::

I bought them from a fellow AAPK member. He was gracious to offer me first choice of several that he was selling. He saw that I have posted several Marbles before and offered them to me for that reason.

Thank you all for the compliments. This is one of my favorite Marbles handle covers in my collection. I have the Stockman, EO English Jack, Congress and an English Jack all with this handle material. They are all beautiful. Not sure what other patterns have these blue handles but I am always hunting. I’m guessing there is a Doctor’s knife out there and not sure what else.

A friend gave me this one. Although it's not even close to the type I collect (or carry), I do like the 'Owl Head' logo but that's about the only thing I like about this POS knife (just trying to find something positive to say about a knife I really have no interest in :) ). Not sure where it was made; pile side tang stamp shows Munich, however, based on the build quality (i.e., piss poor: edges are not very sharp, practically no snap on any of the three blades, dinged bolster, cheap/flimsy blade steel, etc. ::disgust:: ), I would have to guess China. If I recall correctly from an Owl Head stockman I bought a number of years ago, this brand is owned by SMKW (TBH, my Owl Head stockman was much better than this Saxon Whittler.) Oh, and when I took it out of the box the shield fell off so I had to glue it back on. :x

Has anyone else had any experience with an Owl Head brand knife?

Always difficult to explain to a friend who knows nothing about knives why I collect the specific knives that I do. ::tired::

Today I received what may be the simplest and cheapest "knife/multi-tool" anywhere, the Bassett Trim-Trio. I always had one of these when I was a kid. They were on cardboard displays in the local diners, etc., along with pocket combs, cheap pocket watches, pipes, etc. I think they were 99 cents or something like that.

I had forgotten all about these and I don't think I've seen one since I was a teenager (1970s). I saw a photo of one recently and it took me by surprise... I couldn't believe I had not remembered these little tools. I immediately picked up a couple new, old stock specimens on the big auction site so I could add them to my knife drawer.

Here's a photo of a whole card of them from the 1950s...

Yes, I had a red handle trapper by Munich Iron works which had the Owl heads logo. ::facepalm:: Both blades were weak, and the main blade had wobble. I gave it away.

I considered doing that, Smitty, but I think would feel too embarrassed to give this knife to someone.

I waited for this one for 10 days before the auction was over. It’s easy to forget about a knife in that much time. But I couldn’t stop thinking about this Hen and Rooster when I saw it. I was determined to make it mine so I ended up paying a pretty penny for this, too much to even think of reselling it.
The stag on this one is just over the top gorgeous. I love this old way of making knives where they take the excess off of the back of the stag instead of hafting it away on the front. Sowbelly Cuttin Horse is my favorite pattern to collect. Pinched and lined bolsters and amazing stag just hit all my buttons.
