There are occasional bald eagle sightings around here I haven’t seen any here. Did see them when my daughter lived in Minneapolis on East River Road. Her apartment balcony faced the Mississippi River, saw Eagles, ducks, geese and deer just a couple of blocks off the Interstate!

News report of 1 dead eagle and 4 sick, i.e. not flying, acting strangely. They are being treated and analyzed now. Somewhere near the Penn. border, but don't know which border.

I saw that too, suspect lead poisoning. The Eagles had been eating on a dead deer.

So, I was on a backroad admiring the scenery. I decided I would take a pic of some cattle grazing, an old barn in the background, maybe put it in the miscellaneous pictures thread if worthy. The area was suddenly inundated with blackbirds.......ornithology thread!

Fine shot Ike. Now, can you identify the species? I can eliminate starlings and I don't see any Red-Wings. What might they be at this time of year in your part of the country?

Actually, Garry, I think that they were predominantly Red Winged. They don't show in the pics because of the distance and being a little blurry because of their movement. Here is another pic I took, and you can see the epaulet on the one in the foreground.

Thank you for your comment.

I see it. Often when a large flock of Red-Wings takes off they flash their epaulets in unison; a beautiful sight.

Surprised to see a Mockingbird at the feeder yesterday. They are listed as scarce at this time of year in Kentucky.
