All About Pocket Knives

A new Gerber Guardian.
I believe this is another RW Loveless design.

My ‘new’ Buffalo Brand Ruko Solingen. I paid $15 bucks for it today. I can’t find this particular knife anywhere online, except for references to Ruko being new and shoddy. This seems to be neither.
Anyway, I finally got my stag! It’s another little guy too, only 7’’ overall with a 3 1/2’’ blade. I seem to be leaning toward small hunters, boys knives, I guess. I just like them better than the big ones.
As always, info appreciated!

I see that as a bird and trout knife. It just sounds better than boys knife. Lol!

That is a very handsome looking knife. The blade shape and handle are a beautiful match. I personally prefer a larger ricasso. Congratulations on a superb creation.

This is a Ralph Bone I have, thought it would make a good skinner, just to nice to use.

I always appreciate a substantial lower guard on a fixed blade that is intended for serious/heavy cutting.

Beginning in 1950's and lasting through to the 1980's, Stag handled German fixed blades were popular. There was a believe by some that German steel was "superior". I think this was a myth started by the importers of German knives.
Top among these knives were the "sets" of 2 knives in one sheath, a big one and a small one. Here is a set with the biggest of the big.
These were made by many Solingen cutlery manufacturers. One of the older (1888) and most highly regarded was Anton Wingen Jr. with the Othello logo.
Here is an Anton Wingen Jr. 2 knife set, the large knife is OAL 13" and blade a little over 8"; small knife OAL 7 1/2", blade 4".
I think this is a great example of this time of German imports.

Lots of those German hunting knives have a lot of appeal. I still have a couple around, a Lutters and a Wingen Othello, both woodcraft versions.

Calvin, i have a knife that looks the same as the one you posted above. It is a "Premier", (an importer of knives) and is the first fixed blade i bought myself. It was in the window of the local hardware store circa 1958 and i still have it.

Here is my German knife that looks quite similar in profile to Calvin's(tongueriver) knife posted above.
OAL 8 1/4", blade 4 1/2", marked "Premier/Lifetime" and "H 22/Germany"
I bought this in 1958 or '59 at the hardware store across the street from my home in Ville LaSalle Quebec. I burned my initials into the sheath with a magnifying glass. The "Lifetime" logo turned out to be true.

Wow! Some fantastic old knives being shown!!! Excuse me for a moment while I pop my eyes back into my head.

This is an Edge Mark, Solingen Germany (11" OAL) that belonged to my Granddad. I remember when Grandma gave it to him for Christmas 1960.

Very good knife. Edge Brand was a Gutmann import. Which Solingen manufacturer made them is not known but the quality is the same as Puma, Wingen, Schlieper, etc.
Some of these knives have saw teeth cut into the spine.

Some exceptional stag on that knife. And there is nothing wrong with the rest of it either. Thanks for showing it!

This gem was found in the basement of an old pawn shop. The owner said she didn't feel right taking money for it so she gave it to me.
I don't think it has ever been sharpened.
I may sandblast the blade.

Ken98 that is a treasure and a gracious gift. I hope you show it to us after the clean up.
