A fine cartridge, a classic. If you hunt what game have you taken with it?

Just bought /ordered, one of the Browning BLR -- ( Stock Photo Below) --never owned, nor shot a Browning lever gun and I'm looking forward to it's arrival !!! __ I decided on the 7mm-08 caliper ( seemed to be the closest thing to my 270, recoil & ballistic wise ::hmm:: -- I would like to try hunting without the scope ""if these old eyes will perform "" but may have to scope it too !! Just always felt a Lever Gun was for open sights*** :)

Anyone hunt / play with one of these ?? Comments ?? --- I've only read on-line reviews, and most were XX+++ ::tu::

My youngest brother hunts with an older BLR in 308W and loves it Monk. He has a scope on it, not sure what make or magnification.I prefer a Savage 99 F in 308 that I have. I believe its the top one. The rest have found new owners.

Monk, I owned one until very recently; mine was a 1982 BLR-81 chambered in 308 WIN. I like a levergun and I like a 308 WIN - just prefer my Winchester M88 in the same cartridge so I sold the Browning to a buddy. There was nothing wrong with the Browning except the same issue one has with the M88 - very heavy trigger pull. The BLR is lightweight, therefore fun to carry. I got good accuracy and velocity by loading a 150 grain Nosler BT with Hodgdon CFE-223 ball powder. I do prefer scopes on my high-power hunting rifles. OH

You really have to appreciate a guy who has a picnic table next to his deer stand. That's awesome. ::ds:: ::groove::

Some nice rifles Steve & Bruce !!!! ::tu:: ::tu:: --- I too, really like the 308 , but already have a BAR & Rem.Bolt in the 308 cal. set-up -- thought if I was going to try a lever gun,I would go with something different** __ Had my sights on a 270 WSM till' I read the ballistics chart and saw where it had recoil similar to my 30-06 -- the 7mm-08 seems to be what I had in mind to play with for awhile ::shrug:: -- will follow with a report, after some range time** thanks for the comments guys !!!

PS-- who all is going to the "'PICNIC"" at Old Hunters place ???? opening morning of deer season

Wish I had kept all the old Winchester lever actions I've owned over the years ::teary_eyes:: .
I only have 3 in my possession at this time, one is a 1892 32-20 rifle with octagon bbl., it has a family tie so it will stay at home. Then there's 94 made in 1955 that has only fired a few rounds according to its' previous owner and the other one is a Model 1895 in .30 US. (30-40 Krag), it is a carbine but it doesn't have the original butt stock and butt plate :( .
Pictures of the 92, 95 and the 94 is 2nd from the bottom in the bottom picture.

Monk:

Gotta like the 7-08. Great bullet selection. Might be a little easier on the shoulder to shoot off the bench than the 308 in the summer.

espn77,
The 3rd one is a 62 and the next is an 06. Some where in my junk there is a Model 90, the bbl. is shot out but it has the most beautiful grain in the butt stock ::tu:: .
There is an interesting shot gun at the top of the picture, it's a Model 41 single shot bolt action Winchester, .410.
The 2nd rifle is a Model 74 .22 and the bottom is a Model 67 Boy's Rifle.

OK OH. One last one for today. Probably my favorite. German cape gun. 1905-1925. 16 guage, 11 mm. Highly engraved, flip up peep sight, set trigger has it all.

ESPN, those are some beautiful firearms!

I am partial to the .22s. I have a Remington 241, the follow-on product to the Remington 24. It was my Grandpa's, and it spent most of it's life in Tahoka, TX, if you know where that is. He is buried there. Someday I would like to add a 24 to my collection, and have been eye-balling a few on gunbroker.

I also have a Remington 550-1, which is the first rifle I ever shot. I like that it will digest .22 shorts or LR.

Those old .22 are hard to beat. They are so steady in your hands. The one I really want is a Winchester 73

I know where one is located. You'd need a few Permium wells or a really good cotton crop.

Since it hasn't rained up here all year the cotton crop probably won't help much

Great stuff being shown here. Nice mix of old and new. Thanks for sharing Gents.

Did want to pull the trigger on one of these for a while, pun not intended.
Picked up a Vortex Viper HD 20 by 60 by 80 spotting scope and tripod today. Probably pay for itself in a ammo cuz I'm trying to go long range. I played with it tonight at my place and clearly see cows at over 4 miles. Great company with great warranty as I had to exercise that once.
Also ran the Colt Pyhton, circa ~1980, thru some drills today. So accurate, may carry this bad boy. 20 yards, 6 shots, silloette, single action in about 6 seconds. Group was about 3 inches. Take that all day long.
