The Ponder Post Rider left me an early Christmas gift today.
A Rough Ryder Trapper RR2198. The pictures on both sides change when seen at different angles.
In the first pic it says Merry Christmas and in the second Happy Holidays.

The other day when some of y'all were talking about the RR Christmas knives like the one David posted, I got to eye ballin' the RR Moose with the unique up swept spay blade. When I ordered some items for my grandson's knife care kits, I ordered the Moose, a big investment of $9.99. Don't shoot me as being un-American for buying a Chinese knife. If the Lord blesses me with a deer this season, I'm going to try this one out if I can remember to use it and not one of the old faithfuls usually in my pocket.
This joker is scary sharp as well as kinda gaudy looking. The RR trapper sent me anonymously a year or so back held it's factory edge very well dressing a deer.

Some GREAT looking pick ups and finds, knifer's. ::tu::

I've Never seen the 'elf' logo/stamp before. That's pretty kool...and the knife is awesome.

Philip...that Moose will make a very nice working knife on your deer. IMHO, RR has proven that their QA for china made knives are GREAT. I'm not ashamed to have purchased the ones I have. KJ's expertise and knowledge regarding them persuaded me to give them a go and I have yet to be disappointed. Good luck on getting your deer. Nice HB too.

Nice looking 'Merry Christmas' Trapper, Dave.

Good looking Whittler, Ryan.

So, my brother and his wife visited some friends in Kansas City, and while there, he saw a yard sale across the street from where they were visiting. He wondered over to take a look...and l@@k what he picked up for me. He called me and asked if I would be interested in a Gil Hibben knife for $35.00...and I said YES! I received it today.

The knife turned out to be a 1992 Highlander Bowie, UC627. Researching this knife, from what I could find, Hibben (United Cutlery) only made 750 of these 'Silver' knives. Some are signature series, others are First Production Runs. This one I have is a Second Production Run, because it doesn't have the 'nut' attached to the pommel. The handle is 'wire wrapped'. The blade is 420 SS with polished guard & pommel. The leather sheath is original and in almost mint condition, thick and solid, as is the knife. These model of knives were all made in Taiwan...NOT China. I'm very pleased to be able to own a Hibben knife. The person selling it told my brother they've had it for over 20 years.

PS: As a side note...This Highlander knife is the exact model of knife used by Woody Harrelson in the 1994 movie "Natural Born Killers".

Anyway...here it is:

Thanks Floyd. Yeah, he did good, real good. Either the seller didn't know what they had, or they needed the money. ::shrug:: My brother knew what they had. ::ds::

This arrived this morning, a Case 1/2 whittler in white smooth bone, but it has a very, very light cream tinge to it which i really like. You cannot see it in the photos but it is there, just a very light tinge.

I think he just didn't know what he had. Maybe saw Taiwan and automatically thought "China"??? Anyway I have a few Hibbens and wouldn't sell any of them for $35. Depending on the model, I value them more in the $60 and up range. JMO

Beautiful bowie knife isn't it Ken! ::tu:: I posted mine awhile ago under "Fixed Blade Knives", and I'm as impressed with this knife as much as you are. Mine also doesn't have the "nut" on the pommel, so from what you say, I'd assume it's a 2nd. generation as well. I too was extremely pleased with the quality sheath it came with, a nice change from some I've received. I've often wondered what "Highlander" refers to, and the only 2 things I can come up with are, the movie, or something Scottish, although, those are nothing more than guesses. I also have 3 other G/H knives, one of them being the "Silver Shadow" dagger, which also has a wire-wrapped handle and mirror-polished hardware, and the 2 of them together make for a really nice set. I paid twice what you did for your "Highlander", so ya done real good on this one! As sturdy and solid as this bowie is, I couldn't bring myself to put it to work and risk ruining it's gorgeous appearance, so mine hangs on the wall in my "man cave" waiting to be taken down and admired, and I do so regularly. Here's a chuckle for ya, I could walk down the main street of where I live with this knife hanging off my hip and not turn a head, but would be arrested for having a 2" switchblade on my keychain! DUH! ::facepalm:: It's special to find a knife you adore at a reduced price, so enjoy your find, ::handshake:: I'm sure it will bring you many years of viewing pleasure, or use, whichever you decide! 8)

Two knives arrived today. First up is a Robeson Canoe with stag covers made by Queen and bearing a Pocket Eze shield. W&T are good but F&F are exceptional. I like the looks of this Canoe a lot.

Next is a Utica Kutmaster Lockback with Scrimshaw. The bone is so beautiful that I am beginning to think it is ivory. I appreciate the detail of the scrim. The scrim is on both sides. Often it is on just one cover.

Ken, I remember when those Bowies were in the catalogs for sale many years ago, I probably still have an old catalog with that in there. I’m not a Bowie collector but that one sure tempted me. It has an amazing look to it.
Derek, that smooth natural bone is always a favorite of mine. Looks great on the half whittler.
Garry, I nearly bought that Kutmaster when I saw it scrolling the other day, it has a great appearance. The Robeson canoe looks marvelous.

Afternoon folks, you all been Rounding up some nice Cutlery out of the Mail System!!
Just got this Canal Street Ring turn today . Thanks to Roland ,our friend up north ,it’s a very well built piece. The Craftsmanship it took to build this is something else ,very smooth opening ,with little pressure on the ring, and then a nice little snap in place. Blades sit true ,open smoothly and are tight.
Have a good one out there and be safe.

Received this one today to add to my Camillus family. A Camillus 72 Yellow Jacket in the yellow delrin handles. Blades are tight with no wobble, great snap, but do have small scratches, and I need to do a sharpening and a little work on the coping blade to even the edge. The Yellow Jacket etch is present on the master blade but a little weak. Other than that a great addition in a variation I didn't have.
