The thing that amazes me is the handles. Even though they are that black synthetic they used back then, they have not shrunk or curled. They are just as tight as the day the knife was made. In my book, that's a head shaker.

It has one defect. The punch blade will not close all the way with the master blade closed. It get's hung up on the liner and with the master closed, you can not push it over far enough to complete closing. Master closes fine with the punch closed. ::shrug::

That's a great set, still has the wrapper around the box.

Glad you've got it in that condition, but one has to wonder what kind of Scout "Jim" was that he never took it out of the box.

There's a story there somewhere. Wish we were privy to it.

Mike - what a find! I'm glad to know that it's in good hands and preserved for future generations. I'm confident that Jim is camping with the angels but I'm sure he's looking down with much admiration and appreciation that someone invested in his treasure which is probably why it wasn't taken out of it's original packaging. Congrats!

Very nice early scout .
I believe with a little research you'll find that it was made by Schrade Cut Company .

Picked up a pair of Ulsters this week, I carried one just like the black one back in the late 60's in Boy Scouts, both knives still have some of the official blade etch remaining.

John that's how it started for me.......picked up a couple of Boy Scout knives at a flea market because they reminded me of when I was a scout back in the 60s and early 70s. Next thing I knew I was hooked. 8)

Yes Phil, brings back very good memories of a simpler time for me also. Anytime I can find a decent condition Scout knife I add it to the collection.

Had a great time at the Mystic Conn show this weekend. Was able to trade for this rare Cattaraugus Jr Scout knife. There is a repair to the pearl as you can see in the pictures but a very rare knife. Love the etch and compass!!

WOW - great find Mike - you should forward those pictures to Mark at Knife World for potential inclusion with the upcoming article on Scout knives with compasses.

Thanks for doing that Mike - Bob and Ellis pulled together most of the materials for that article and I wrote it. I have a very insignificant Scout knife with compass collection but thoroughly enjoyed researching the subject and capitalizing on the materials that were provided to me. I believe that many of the proposed photographs were from your personal Cattaraugus collection so having this MOP in the article will be huge.

The Mystic show is on my bucket list. I grew up in Connecticut and still have relatives that live close to the show (Madison and Berlin). Maybe next year!
