Buck 110 S45VN Burlap Micarta, SMKW exclusive buildout.

Received the message from SMKW that these were available, first come-first served, so I succumbed to temptation again.

The burlap scales feel great, and this knife feels light as a feather compared to the traditional “110”. Can’t wait to try out the S45VN blade.

Me, too. Bought one last year, then gave in to temptation and bought the “Elite” version.

I have a Buck 591 Paradigm auto on the way this one is the Brown one and a 898 Impact is also on the way. For some reason I've really taking a liken to the 898 impact I think part of the reason is they're discontinued which makes the hunt more fun. Trying to get all the colors they came in plus I think they're a lot better looking knife than the current 838 Deploy.

Nice looking Hoover knife, GPO Man. He does a great job on the exotic rock scales, albeit, a bit expensive. However, I did purchase his 'Tiger Eye' 112 last year.

Did he sign the back-spring on the inside? You have to open the blade and look into the blade well and look at the back-spring to see if he signed it. Not that it's a big deal...his signature doesn't increase the value, imho. But it does verify that it is a Hoover knife.

Not trying to steal GPO's thunder, just wanted to show another Hoover creation with African Tiger Eye. I've posted these before, but they're buried in cyber space somewhere.

John,

Not sure how soon GPO will see your question, so I copied this from the BCCI site. Mr. Hoover has this statement identifying the stone.

"Turritella agate is the popular name used for a brown, translucent, fossiliferous highly silicated fossil deposit found in the Green River formation of Wyoming. It is very easy to recognize because it contains large fossil snails that stand out in a white-to-tan color that contrasts with the brownish agate.

This organic gem material was incorrectly named decades ago when the christener thought that the spectacular spiral-shaped gastropod (snail) fossils entombed within the stone were members of the marine Turritella genus. That was a mistake. Instead, the fossils are of the freshwater snail, Elimia tenera, a member of the Pleuroteridae family.

Before the correct name was realized and widely published, the gem material became quite popular and the name “Turritella” went wild in lapidary magazines, gem, mineral, and fossil books, catalogs, and exhibits. Today it is typically seen without corrective note in all of those sources, along with websites, online auctions, and computer software. Only a fraction of the people who have collected the material, cut it into cabochons, sold it, bought it, or worn it in jewelry have any knowledge that Elimia is a more appropriate name.

This stone does have some minor “texture”, mostly pits and a few lines in the stone."
