Colonel, those old .35s are a blast. It's the perfect Southeastern U.S. deer gitter.
Here's a pic of parts I'm gathering for my next retro build. Can you guess what it's gonna be? (hint: think 1980s)
The stock was a gift from a buddy of mine in the gun parts business. He came across this stock with rack number "R-2". My initials are R.R., so a lot of my old friends call me "R-2". Can you think of a better reason to start a new build?

I have a 1957-58 Marlin 36SC.

Ranger you're right. It's a fantastic deer getter. Especially in our rolling hills.

Spent Friday afternoon on the range - had some handloads to accuracy test & chronograph and a scope to zero on the 22 WMR. Got it all done over the afternoon; Ruger 44 MAG bear load is perfect - now I need to load more (300 grain hardcast WFN-GC) and set the rear sight. The M48A load was a bust - probably need to abandon the 125 grain bullet - I think it's squirrely in a .323" bore - extreme spreads of over 400 fps! The little Marlin is dead on at 100 yards with the CCI 30 grain V-MAX load. All in all a fun afternoon. OH

Just traded into this one. I like it.

Ithaca 37 Ultrafeatherlight 20 gauge, 5 lbs, English stock with checkered wood butt plate, and a wonderful ol deluxe poly-choke.

Blue, looks like the makings of a M16A1 - that'll make up a nice AR15. OH

PS. Wade, looks like we posted at the exact same time. Very nice M37 you have there - bet that will be fun to rabbit and bird hunt with. OH

Wad my buddy has one and love it Just bought Sue a Gen ll Ruger lcp.I edc a S&W Bodyguard a couple of my bro's carry first gens ,any opinions on the gen ll lcp?

I like it dogg !!!! -- ( but I like all Rugers** ) when I bought the wife a hand gun, I was between the S&W Bodyguard and the Ruger LC9-LM , because both had a thumb safety** --she had never handled a pistol of any kind, but with the lazer light,she can hit the target** -- opted for the 9mm. Ruger and she's a happy camper ( the main goal )

Thanx Colonel and Monk I was surprize right out of the box afta I cleaned the packing grease then oiled the LCP Sue hit the torso 5 out of six times at 7 yds I do like the trigger better for her than the Bodyguard but I wish it had second strike capabilities,last shot hold and a lazer like mine. I do like the sights better than the first gen.All in all a good shooter.PS I will wait quite a while before I let her shoot the Sig 238 or the Smith Shield

Shows there all still real folks out there in our country from all directions of the compass.

To maintain our precious 2nd Amendment rights we need to really look close at who we support, from local politics right on up to the White House. It is a sad fact that some of our AAPK members live in areas where they can not buy, sell or trade without extensive paper work and governmental interference. All the laws passed will never stop a criminal from his actions, all the laws making gun ownership more difficult only clear the paths for the criminals to be safe, to do their thing, in the "gun free zones". It is so refreshing to read or see a report where a criminal/thug was stopped by an armed citizen.

I'll get down off the soap box for now, but let's consider why the Bill of Rights was deemed necessary by our founding fathers. Seems like these 1st 10 amendments to the Constitution were well though out and are applicable to protect us from, as they say today, "both sides of the isle".

Now, back on track, Old Hunter and Gdogg, we also like the Ruger arms at our place, along with others. Being able to control a hand gun is key to being able to protect and defend. For that reason, my wife has chosen for her carry weapon an Ruger SR22 equipped with a Crimson Trace laser. Before y'all go to jumpin' up and down about the pipsqueak 22 as a defensive weapon, I'll ask for volunteers to stand at 7 yards and see how that ends up. She's comfortable with it, she hits the target with it with the iron sights, but then, stand by when she turns clicks the laser on! She says, "That's a lot easier!"

Colonel, I really like your 20 ga. 37 but that thing on the end is awful lookin' , it's far from wonderful in my opinion ! We've got a 20 ga. 870 with a poly choke and I feel the same about it , however, they do tend to work, but ugly on the end of an elegant little Ithaca. Glad you got it and I know it will serve y'all well, but it's still ugly to me .

Nice pick up with that M 37 Colonel. I didn't know they came with the English stock.

PA is not too bad at the state level with regard to restrictions. Private sales of long arms are still permitted among residents, except in Philly and maybe Pittsburgh the local sheriff shall issue concealed carry permits. I've seen open carry so I guess that's OK too. The trouble is we're surrounded by states that are very restrictive. No big deal unless you have a handgun in your vehicle.

No TF we need more guys like you up on the Soap box so we won't lose our rights and remind people where we come from.

Philip, for my 15th or 16th (can't remember which) my parents gave me a Mossberg bolt action 16 ga with a PolyChoke. Never really liked it but it was all they could afford so I appreciate it.

You and my daddy agree about poly-chokes. Every time he traded for a shotgun that had a poly-choke on it he'd get out the hacksaw and take her off. Of course, back in the day all the old bird hunters like daddy thought all bird guns ought to be cut down to 24-26 inches at the most and cylinder bore, no choke at all.

I know that I'm one of the five or six people left in the world that actually likes em. But that's alright. It lets me buy wonderful old shotguns that I wouldn't normally be able to afford because they come cheaper! And they work good too. When I go into the gun store I always scan the racks for a poly-choke. Those are the ones where deals can often be had.

Yes sir Steve. I traded another Ithaca ultrafeatherlight to it. The one I traded in was a normal pistol grip stock with a Sid Bell pheasant grip cap. The English stock variation is the hardest to come by, and it fits me a lot better than the 80's stocks Ithaca used.

My favorites though are still my pre '55 ithacas with the hand cut checkered pistol grip stocks.

TF, I personally am glad that you said what you did. So true my friend and thanks for saying it. I am proud our forefathers had the sense to craft the second amendment. It is a precious right that is always under attack from those with no common sense in my opinion. They will continue to try to take our guns. To that, I think Charlton Heston said it best.
As far as restrictions, part of the reason I like living in Nevada is in relation to the gun laws. Private sales of handguns and long guns is still permitted now, although I have not personally engaged in that type of transaction. No cooling period for any firearm purchase, unlimited purchase of ammo and no ID required, open carry allowed, loaded and concealed allowed in vehicle, suppressor purchases allowed, etc. Concealed permit (unless you are a felon) requires a $100 eight hour class, $100 bucks to the Sheriff and 2 weeks later, you have a CCW. My permit also removes the need for a call in background check when purchasing a firearm. Saves time and 25 bucks with each purchase. Already paid for itself. I am constantly urging others to get their permit AND CARRY ALL THE TIME. Some may disagree but it is the world we live in. My opinion. If someone wants a CCW permit, I suggest they do not put off doing so.

As far as a .22 as a carry, if that is what your lady is comfortable and proficient with, that is the best carry for her, regardless of caliber. God bless her for being prepared.

Amazes me that some of the guys I know that have a CCW permit, don't carry all the time. "I carry only when I go to Reno" they say. To each his own, we live in a pretty safe town but something ugly can happen anywhere. I sure hope it doesn't, but prefer not to wish I had my guns that I left at home if crap hits the fan.

I wonder how many lives could have been possibly saved in Orlando last night had several of the patrons had been carrying?

Here is what I carry EVERYWHERE I am legally allowed (illegal to CC in airports, Post Office or Schools). Everyday, everywhere. Yesterday it was Walmart, Grocery Store, Feed Store, mini mart and the desert with the dogs. Same carries on me now as I am heading into town.

Keep spreading the word, talk to friends and family. Our right to bear arms is certainly under attack.

BTW, it will be increasingly difficult to buy a suppressor, other NFA items or open a NFA trust after July, 13th 2016, due to an ATF law that takes effect on that date.

That's a mighty fine pistol! When I blew up the picture there is something written on the bottom of the handle, looks like Laser...somethin' or other. Does it have a laser or is that just markings on the grip?
Oh yeah, the knife ain't too bad either .

Nice looking pistol Monk. You do have good taste in guns IMO.

When I've used a laser sight it's made my unsteady hands obvious to all present. That little light tells the tale.
