Since it's rainin' and it seems like the proper thing to do and since somebody started this thing about .22's, had to drag out my 62A and show her off :) ! According to research this one was made in 1947, so she's a year younger than me. Traded a 3 month old Santa Gertrudis bull calf for this one many years ago, back when calves weren't quite so high.
I'm kinda' partial to old Winchesters and have been lookin' for an affordable Win. model 61 for a EDS (every day shooter- to coin a phrase). My ol' uncle had one when I was a boy, in 22 mag, sold it 'cause ammo was too expensive back in the day :( .

Bounced the slug out of a .22 short off the back of a frog's head one time down by the pond at Grannie Weasels old place. He was out of it for a minute but then came back around. ::uc::

TF, that's a nice old Winchester. You guys are dragging out some nice old .22s.

Carmillus, mine is .22 long rifle only. It has failure to feed issues, and the firing pin is hitting the rim of the shell, but not hard enough to make it go bang consistently. Since it is a take down model, I believe the issue is head space - the barrel needs adjusting. However, the adjustable collar to enable that has been peened into place sometime before I inherited the rifle - so I can't adjust it.

So I think I know what the problem is - I just don't have the tools / equipment to fix it. Hence the gun smith.

There were several witnesses but they're all my age and after 60+ years selective memory takes over (if there's any memory at all), so.....................

How about this? Will you believe I bought new grips for my Colt 1911 MK IV Series 70? They're pewter. Left side there fits like a glove. The other side is going to take a small amount of work.

JerryD,
That's a fine looking set of grips there. Nothing like a set of custom grips to make it your own.
Here's a 1911 I put a set of Wilson grips on it.
And one more for the .22 parade. This is a J.C. Higgins Model 101.16. They made these between 1946-1962.

jerry and ranger nice 45's

Your JC Higgins is made by Savage and is their Model 6. Known as gill guns because of the fins. An interesting design where you could run it as a semi auto or as a bolt action repeater by toggling the bolt button in or out. Yours looks like its been well kept.

Nice guns all - and nice grips Jerry and Ranger.

I bought out the big guns tonight!!!

I did some target practice (not very well, I might add) with a couple of model 99 Daisy BB guns. The one pictured was my Uncle's. He purchased it in about 1971 or so, and I inherited it about 30 years ago. I got one just like it at the same time - I was 8 or 9.....only mine is in a lot rougher shape than his. But both still work. I spent a lot of time in the woods with mine as a kid, until I graduated to the .22. We had a stock tank, and I used to piss off and irritate big old bullfrogs and turtles with my old Daisy.

I have one of those gill guns too. Mine is marked Stevens. It's crazy accurate and easy to shoot. The big plus though is with that long ol barrel it's very quiet with shorts. Makes for a handy yard pest eliminator.

Old school .. .. I like it . ::tu::
Had a series 80 once, traded it off, like a dumba** . Still have the Combat Commander ..... 8)

After the previous posts, I'd be embarrassed to show my .22's

I was just sittin' here daydreaming. You reminded me Royal. That MKIV/Series 70 is my second one. I went a little crazy in the mid '80s and sold off some of my guns. Sometime in the '90s I started buying used replacements at twice the price I paid for them the first time. Now who's the dumb a..?

Thanks. Got hooked on 'em when we fam-fired them in boot camp. Wanted one and finally got one in the late '70s-early '80s. That's the one I sold when I stuck my head up my ............. Bought a used one a few years later (the one you see) to replace it.

I like that SpeedMaster.

This discussion has got me ruing the day I agreed to sell that Savage pump .22 I had.

As I stated earlier, I had about eight different pump .22/s when I was a boy.

I grew up, went to college, got married, went into Service, came home and started college again.

My Dad called one evening and said there was a guy there that wanted to buy all my pumps. I thought about it and told him to sell them all except the very nice, clean Winchester 62A, shown here earlier.

Wishing I had kept that Savage, too.

This is not it, but this is what it was, about the same condition, too.

You had a Model 1914 Charlie. Fun rifle and usually accurate.

Joe, that Speedmaster looks great.

The stars must all have aligned today. The boys and I have been burning up some 22's the last few days so I went by a little gun and fishing store today just in case they might possibly have some.

Lo and behold there were 4 bricks (500 rounds) of Federal 40 grain on the shelf. It was a tad higher than I usually pay at the Walmart, but it was there so two bricks came home!

Then I scanned for 35 Remnigton like I always do in vain. But not only did they have the Hornady 200 grain leverevolution, but they had the better and harder to come by Rem 200 grain corelockts! So a box of those came home too. I might have to go plink some with the big 35 next week.
